Interesting Delft ware circular bowl with polychrome decoration including a bust of Nelson with Oriental flowers and a barge, the interior with floral sprays in manganese and blue, 29cm diam. Mixed Lot: a rare Nelson brass medal box by Peter Wyon (1797-1822). His initials appear at the base of the bust of Nelson to the lid. The surround to the lid stamped "Admiral Lord Nelson, Duke of Bronte". Note: it is not included in the list of medals and boxes in Thomas Hardy's "Nelson Commemorative Medals 1797-1905", R.C.F. together with a Nelson Memorial box medal in card with brass bezel and copper inner, embossed with a portrait of Admiral Lord Nelson. Note: the head appears to be struck from the same die as T A Hardy's box 49 (Nelson Commemorative Medals 1797-1905) but varies in that it does not have Nelson's date of birth and M & P below. The first 6.5cm diam, the second 7cm diam (2)

Mixed Lot: a medal commemorating Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805) in bronzed base metal, obverse: the Admiral's bust within an oval border with palm and laurel branches surmounted by a Naval crown and placed on the side of an obelisk surrounded by flags to both sides, the base against which leans the figure of a weeping seaman is piled up with trophies of war, legend (on the base) "Gallant Nelson died in the hour of victory, 21 Octr AD. 1805" above the word "Trafalgar", the reverse depicting Britannia with lion behind and shield beside her, beneath the legend "In life victorious, in death triumphant" and with date 1805 in Roman numerals under, 5cm diam, small surface losses to edge; a cased silvered metal medallion commemorating The Trafalgar Square Monument 1843, by James Taylor of Birmingham, the obverse with Nelson's bust surrounded by "Adml Lord Nelson", the reverse depicting the Nelson column in Trafalgar Square, London, 40mm diam, a further example of the same (lacking most of the silvered finish and with edge losses) and a pair of small bronze medallions depicting to obverse a bust of Nelson surrounded by "Horatio Viscount Nelson" "born 29 September 1758, died 21 October 1805", the reverse depicting Foudroyant, Lord Nelson's flagship, legend below reads "Commenced building 1789, launched at Plymouth April 1798, wrecked at Blackpool June 16 1897", further inscribed under "medal struck from copper of vessel after breaking up", 35mm diam, together with a further example of the same medallion (6)

Small bronze medal commemorating the return home of Admiral Lord Nelson 1800, obverse features Nelson's bust with pigtail and full uniform, ribbon and Star of Bath and medal around his neck, surrounded by the legend "Admiral Lord Nelson", reverse showing Nelson's ship nearing shore on which Britannia holds out a wreath towards him, legend reads "Hail! virtuous hero, thy victories we acknowledge and they God", further inscribed at base, "Returned to England Nov 5 1800". The medal by T Halliday (see Thomas A Hardy cat no 16). Information: In November 1800, Nelson returned to England owing to ill health, a few days later the new Lord Mayor of London was sworn in and presented Lord Nelson with a sword for his extraordinary services. Three ships and 228 guns taken, further dated at base 23. D. June 1795, 48mm diam and a Admiral Collingwood and the Battle of Trafalgar bronze medal 1805, obverse showing a uniformed bust portrait of Lord Collingwood, the reverse with view of the British and French fleets, inscribed above "His Country's Future Hope" and below "Victory October 21 1805", 38mm diam. Info: Collingwood was promoted closely after Lord Nelson and was a firm friend. At Trafalgar he captained The Royal Sovereign and was second in command to Nelson, his ship was the first to break through the enemy lines. His final resting place is alongside Lord Nelson in St Paul's Cathedral (3) Provenance: all purchased from Christopher Eimer 6 March 2001
