An Early XIX Century Mahogany and Oak Longcase Clock, the white dial with Arabic numerals, date box and minute aperture, inscribed John Russell, Sheffield, eight-day movement, the hood with swan neck pediment and turned and reeded supports, square glazed door, the trunk with shaped crossbanded door to base with chamfered sides, 216cm high.
An oak longcase 30 hour clock, late 18th Century, with white enamel dial bearing Roman numerals and floral hand painted spandrels, indistinct makers name, town name of Towcester. Striking the hours on a bell. Good clean movement. Completed with key to door. Height 195cm, width 45.5cm at hood. Dial - 30cm / 12inches. Set up and working in our saleroom.
Railwayana: A mid-19th century, circa 1860, longcase clock, the dial signed 'Gratrix & Knight Patented'. The oval dial measuring approx. 20" x 12", with subsidiary dials and two leather discs with patent coat of arms embossed on them, and two recording arms. Contained in a flame mahogany veneered case, measuring approx. 209cm height, 24cm depth, 51cm width. With weight, pendulum and a printed copy of the patent. Some slight damages but pieces appear to be present. Please assess photographs. Additional Information: This clock was patented by Gratrix and Knight in 1856, 'Registering the Speed of Steam and other Engines, &c'. The patent was for the invention of "Improvements in Apparatus for Registering a Permanent Record of the Speed of Steam or other Engines, which Apparatus is also applicable to Watchmen's Registers and other similar Purposes". Emanuel Burton of Kendal Cumbria 8 day Longcase clock with 12" Wilson square dial. subsidiary seconds and date flowers and strawberry spandrels. Roman and Arabic numerals. eight day movement striking on a bell. Contained in an oak and cross banded mahogany case. A flat topped hood with plain turned pillars to the front and half pillars to the rear of the hood. weights and pendulum. Note Several Emanuel Burtons are recorded as working in Kendal from the 1700 to the 1800. Dimensions 85" x 18" 10" Condition report. Good condition movement not tested.
