A George III mahogany longcase clock by W. Nicholson of Whitehaven, the case with swans neck pediment above an arched glazed door enclosing the 12" arched brass dial with penny moon and tidal dial to the arch, with eight day striking movement date aperture and subsidiary seconds dial, flanked by fluted columns with long arched trunk door, fluted and reeded quarter columns and conforming base supported on ogee bracket feet. Height 225 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The clock has come in for sale from a local private source and is in generally very good order. The case is in extremely good order and in our opinion does not require any work. The doors are not significantly warped. The trunk door closes correctly and locks with the key. There is a slight gap between the top shaped edge of the door and the case itself when the door is closed. The same comment applies to the bottom of the door which is clearly not visible. The movement winds on both trains and is currently ticking away and striking in the saleroom. The mask around the dial is not a perfect fit and there is a small gap around the face and the mask. As you will see from our images the cheeks have not been built up and the seatboard is clearly old.
A 19th century oak and mahogany banded longcase clock, by Couldwell Deep-Coull, with eight day striking movement and painted dial with short trunk door and conforming base raised on bracket feet. Height 222 cm. CONDITION REPORT: Whilst we do have both weights and the pendulum, we have not had the movement running. When weight is applied to both the going and strike trains the movement does however seem to operate. The dial is in generally good order with no significant blemishes. The hood has some minor veneer losses and is generally in good condition as is the case. The trunk door is not warped. The rear right-hand facing foot bracket has a small loss.
A Georgian lacquered longcase clock case only, mask, aperture, width 29.5 cm, height to top of arch 40.5 cm, height from bottom of arch 29.4 cm, overall height excluding finial 218 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The case is structurally sound with no serious issues. There are some minor traces of what is clearly old long gone woodworm to the top glazed door extremities and the side return mouldings. There are minor nibbles and scuffs to the case but no major problems. The door is not warped and closes as it should. The lock is present and we have the key. The base has rubbing through to the softwood around the extremities and the usual scuffs and marks around the plinth as one would expect. There do not appear to be any significant repairs.
A George III mahogany and inlaid longcase clock, makers name John Craig of Maryport, with eight day striking movement and painted dial with half moon aperture, the case with swans neck pediment above canted corners and marquetry inlay. 225 cm high. CONDITION REPORT: We have the weight and pendulum. We have however not had the movement running. The movement is very dirty but appears to be complete and operates when weight is applied to the movement. The dial is in original, unrestored condition and does have some minor scuffs, losses and crazing to the white paintwork. There are some losses to the paintwork on the moon phase. Whilst the case is structurally sound, it is very dry and needs a clean and polish. There are some minor losses to the veneers and the usual scuffs and marks that one would expect. There are no major issues and the door is not warped.
