William Barker is recorded in Baillie G.H. Watchmakers & Clockmakers of the World as working in Wigan circa 1760
Oak cased longcase clock, pagoda top hood, long door, bracket feet, 28cm square brass dial with silvered chapter ring and cast spandrels, single hand, signed Jamed Manning, Wellingborough, thirty hour movement striking on a bell, 191cm, with weight, pendulum and door key.Condition report:There are cracks to the top, bottom, back and right side. There is a minor loss to the top right of the right side. Thee are losses to the door edge. The door does not fit properly but it has had its hinges replaced. A MAHOGANY 8-DAY LONGCASE CLOCK18th Century The 11 1/2 in. chased silvered dial, named William Carter, Southwark, with gilt spandrels, within a mahogany case with fluted columns and three ball finials, 210cm high excluding finialsCondition report:The case with various damages including a section of veneer and timber missing on the right hand side moulding below the hood, and vertical splitting along the back edge of the left hand side. Another smaller horizontal section of veneer missing to the right hand side return. Further other scratches, crack and chips to the veneers, together with extensive dirt and dust. See extra images. The top of the hood with three brass ball finials, two of which have been rescrewed and one loose. All are in worn condition. A winding key present and two weights but no pendulum. The silvering to the central are of the dial is dirty, tarnished and with scuffs. The other elements also invariably and consistently worn commensurate with use and age. No lock present to the glass door of the hood but the door to the trunk with a key. The movement will need to be inspected and checked by specialist clock restorer and there is no guarantee of it's working order. It will require a full overhaul.
