An early 19th century oak and mahogany 8 day longcase clock, the 14in painted dial inscribed 'Robt Hartwell, Nottingham', with moon phase arch, 234cm to top of finial, with weights and pendulum. Condition Report: Has had repairs in various places. The glass door is warped. Has been working in owners house. Crazing and paint lifting at 4 O'Clock on dial. Case has some splitting. Door hinge area has had alteration.
A George III oak, mahogany and inlaid 8 day longcase clock, the 14in painted dial inscribed 'Jas Carter, Warrington', 234cm high, with weights and pendulum. Condition Report: Width at base 21". Width at centre 16 1/2". Depth at base 9". Door slightly warped. Centre of surround has been broken and replaced with a modern brass finial. Damage and repair to moulding on right underside of hood area. Later inlaid shell to door. Some signs of old woodworm in pine part of case. Glass to hood has been replaced at sometime. Hood has signs of restoration. No key present. Weight and pendulum present.

A 19th century oak longcase clock. With double ogee arched pediment with brass scroll ends and finials. Varying cross banding runs the length of the case. A short door is inlaid with marquetry conch shell. The dial is painted with a figure in a rural landscape and Roman numerals. Subsidiary seconds dial and date aperture. Dial signed Brookhouse, Derby. Eight day two-train movement. 83 x 19 in. Unfortunately we are not doing condition reports on this sale.
George Bourn (Kirkby). A George III oak longcase clock, the circular brass dial bearing Roman and Arabic numerals, subsidiary date dial, two train movement with bell strike, the hood with a broken pediment and brass capped Corinthian columns, over a trunk with fluted quarter pilasters, 207cm high.

Samuel Atkinson, Bridlington, a mahogany longcase clock: the eight-day duration, five-pillar movement striking the hours on a bell, the 11½ inch break-arch brass dial having a silvered chapter ring engraved with black Roman numerals and Arabic five-minute outer numerals, the matted centre having a subsidiary seconds dial and date aperture, with floral and c-scroll cast-brass spandrels to the four corners, with an applied silvered plaque to the centre engraved with the maker's name Saml. Atkinson, Bridlington, the arch having a silvered dial for setting strike/silent, with cast-brass dolphin spandrels to the sides, the mahogany case having satinwood quartered columns with cast-brass Corinthian capitals to the trunk, with oval inlaid panel to the trunk door, the hood having a pagoda top with brass ball-and-spire finials and having fluted columns with cast-brass capitals, the base with shaped crossbanding and standing on bracket feet, height 226cms.* Biography Samuel Atkinson is recorded as working in Bridlington, Yorkshire from before 1760 until at least 1780 with his son, also Samuel born 1772, continuing as a clockmaker in the same town.* Notes Reference, Brian Loomes, Clockmaker and Watchmakers of the World. Josh Penford, London. a walnut and floral marquetry longcase clock: the eight-day duration, five-pillar movement striking the hours on a bell with an inside countwheel, the 10½ inch square brass dial having a raised silvered chapter ring engraved with black Roman numerals, Arabic five-minute outer numerals, 'meeting-arrow-head' half-hour markings and signed either side of VI o'clock with the maker's name Josh. Penford, London, the matted dial centre having a subsidiary seconds dial, date aperture with engraved decoration to the surround and ringed winding holes, the cast-brass 'cherub-head' spandrels to the four corners having engraved floral decoration between and decorative blued steel hands, the walnut veneered case with panelled marquetry decoration to the trunk door and base, with further marquetry inlay to the trunk and a lenticle glass to the door, the flat-top hood with three-quarter pillars having cast brass capitals and marquetry inlay to the door, the base with a later applied plinth, with a pair of brass cased weights, height 213cms.* Biography Joshua Penford (sometime Penfold) is recorded as being apprenticed in London in 1684 to the Quaker clockmaker Francis Stamper 'At the Golden Ball in Lombard Street', becoming a Freeman of the Clockmakers Company in 1695.
John Sampson, Penzance, a mahogany longcase clock: the eight-day duration movement striking the hours on a bell, the 11½ inch arched brass dial having a silvered chapter ring engraved with black Roman hour numerals and outer Arabic five-minute markings, with the maker's name John Sampson, Penzance either side of VI o'clock, the matted centre having a subsidiary seconds dial and date aperture with engraved decorative surround, with decorative blued steel hands and cast-brass 'urn' spandrels to the four corners, the arch having a silvered boss engraved with a Ho-ho bird above the latin words Tempus Fugit, with cast-brass 'dolphin' spandrels to each side, the mahogany case with inlaid stringing to the hood, trunk and base, the hood having a swan-neck pediment with brass paterae and ebonised fluted columns with cast-brass capitals, all standing on bracket feet, height 206cms.* Biography John Sampson is recorded as working in Penzance from at least April 1752 when he advertised for 'any young man bred in the clock and watchmaking way wanting employment'. An oak and mahogany thirty hour longcase clock, arch painted dial inscribed W. Prior, Skipton, later movementTop side of the trunk with one large crack and several smaller cracks to the veneer. Front of the plinth with cracks and scuff marks to the edges. Movement feet board with two visible wooden blocks to both sides of the case side cheeks. Dial with paint lifting in parts and with crazing marks, minor losses to paint work on dial edge. Movement front plate with vacant holes, later dial. With pendulum, weight missing.
