A George I/II oak longcase clock, 30cm arched brass dial inscribed Samuel Harris, London, Roman and Arabic numerals, subsidiary seconds dial, date aperture, twin winding holes, 8-day movement striking on a bell, arched hood, rectangular door to waist, bracket feet, 198cm high, c.1730Samuel Harris was born around 1659 and was free of the clockmakers' Company in 1680, and took apprentices until 1730, dying before the end of the decade.

A George II mahogany longcase clock, 27cm brass dial, inscribed Hindley, York, Roman and Arabic numerals, subsidiary seconds dial, date aperture, twin winding holes, 8-day movement striking on a bell, the arch applied with a lotus boss on a moss velvet ground, the hood with dentil cornice and brass capped reeded Corinthian columns, arched rectangular door to waist, plinth base, 218cm high, c.1740Henry Hindley (1701-1771) was born at Wigan, apprenticed to his father 1715-1721 before setting up in Wigan where he worked until 1731, when he moved to York to take over his father's practice there. An important clock and watchmaker, he was a friend of John Whitehurst FRS, the inventor of an improved wheel-cutting engine and made the clock for the Minster at York in 1750. He also made a regulator with pin wheel escapement. A number of apprentices are recorded as having been articled to him. He was succeeded by his son, Joseph (1728-1774).Loomes, B. Clockmakers of the Northern Counties of England (Mayfield 1997) 143-146.

By his wife Mary, he had a son Thomas (1805-1873) an engineer of note in Norwich. A round dial example by this maker was sold in these rooms in Sept. 2017 Lot 1361.

A George III oak and mahogany longcase clock, the 28cm brass dial with silvered chapter ring inscribed Ashton, Ashburn (sic) Roman numerals, date aperture, 30-hour movement striking on a bell, the case with swan neck pediment, shaped rectangular door to waist centred by an oval shell patera, bracket feet, 207cm high, c.1800The signature is that of Samuel Ashton the younger born at Macclesfield 1828, apprentivced to father at Tideswell 1742-49, and moved to Ashbourne c. 1750, leaving his brother Aaron to succeed to their fathrer's business at Tideswell. HHe two son,s Thomas and Martin, the former working from Tideswell and the latter in partnership with his father freom 1791 and his successor until his own death in 1829 [Craven, M & Hughes, R G 'Clockmakers & Watchmakers of Derbyshire' (Mayfield 1998) 57-58.] Condition Report: Generally good. Dial and movement associated with case.

18th Century oak longcase clock, the square hood with blind fretted decoration above a rectangular panel door on plinth base, the gilt brass dial inscribed Phillips, Bromyard, with subsidiary seconds and calendar, the two train movement striking on a bell CONDITION REPORT Dial is 11.5ins square. Appears to be original. Has an eight day movement. There have been some small fillets of wood put in around the seat boards and the case does not stand straight. There is definitely a slight lean to the left as you look at it, this is partly because the joints are loose on the plinth base (one is solid, other has gaps and is slightly dropping because of this). A good furniture restorer could sort out this problem quite easily. Weights look like replacements.
