EARLY 19TH CENTURY 30 HOUR OAK LONGCASE CLOCK having broken arch pediment to the hood above arched aperture flanked by ring turned pillars, cross banded arched waist door flanked by reeded pilasters on a cross banded panelled base with later skirted foot. 17" x 12" approx, arch painted face, with rocking ship pediment, seconds dial and date aperture, the face marked 'William Sealey' and having Roman numerals. Two train movement strikes on one bell. (B.P. 24% incl. VAT) CONDITION REPORT: Very worn, scruffy clock with additions and losses. Includes pendulum and single weight.

George III oak-cased eight-day brass dial longcase clock, Wilks, Wolverton, the 12-inch square brass dial with Roman hours and Arabic minutes framing a matted centre with subsidiary seconds ring over calendar crescent within scroll spandrels, the case having a flat hood with dentil-moulded cornice over blind fretwork frieze, turned columns, long trunk door and plain base, 220cm high Condition: Chapter ring has been polished and may previously been silvered, general light wear to dial including minor tarnishing to second ring but overall sound. Movement appears uncleaned, is untested and sold as seen. Case has been repolished as some stage. Very minor losses to blind fretwork, otherwise sound. Sold with key, winder, two weights and pendulum with intact feather. Longcase clock by Thomas Birchall, Nantwich, 8-day movement, striking on single bell, brass arched dial with rolling moon, secondary minute dial and date aperture, cast metal spandrels, case with canopy, swan neck pediment with blind fretwork, trunk with quartered columns, long walnut cross-banded door, box base with single panel, height 210cm (83").Condition report: Re-furbished movement, rolling moon disconnected, dial requiring re-furbishment, painted spandrels, cracked glass to canopy, missing feet.
Ï’An amboyna and marquetry veneered eight-day longcase clock, Batty Storr, York, circa 1760 and later, the four pillar two train rack and bell striking movement with anchor escapement regulated by seconds pendulum, the 12 inch brass break-arch dial with subsidiary seconds dial, ringed winding holes and calendar aperture to the foliate scroll engraved matted centre within applied silvered Roman numeral chapter ring with lozenge half hour markers and signed Batty Storr, York to lower margin, with pierced steel hands and foliate cast spandrels beneath rolling moonphase to arch, in a case now veneered in Amboyna incorporating marquetry floral spray to the generous domed caddy superstructure over ogee cornice and conforming decoration to the upper quadrants of the hood door flanked by Corinthian columns and with rectangular scroll-pierced sound frets to sides, the trunk with caddy-moulded break-arch door decorated with central marquetry landscape panels within linked stylised cornucopiae and scroll motifs to upper and lower margins, the plinth fronted with a further marquetry landscape scene of a watermill at sunset over generous bracket feet, (marquetry and veneers probably early 20th century, 269cm (106ins) high, 59cm (24ins) wide, 30cm (12ins) deep Batty Storr is recorded in Loomes, Brian Watchmakers & Clockmakers of the World, volume 2 as born in York circa 1710 and died in 1793. John Drew, Londini Fecit, a late 17th Century black lacquer and chinoiserie longcase clock: the eight-day duration, five-pillar movement striking the hour on a bell with an outside countwheel, the eleven-inch square brass dial having a silvered chapter ring engraved with black Roman hour numerals, Arabic five-minute numerals and with 'meeting-arrowhead' half-hour markings, the matted centre having ringed winding holes and the date aperture unusually set below XII o'clock, with applied cast-brass gilded cherub-head and foliate scroll spandrels to the four-corners and engraved to the outer edge of the dial plate with tulip and foliate engraving, inscribed to the base of the dial below the chapter ring at VI o'clock John Drew Londini Fecit, the black lacquer case decorated with oriental figures within a garden landscape with a pagoda, further decoration heightened in gilt, the waist panel door with an oval bullseye glass lenticle, height 200cm. * Biography. John Drew was apprenticed to the eminent clockmaker Joseph Knibb of London in September 1676 and was freed in September 1684 when his address is recorded as Johnson Court in Fleet Street. He was appointed to the position of Beadle in the Clockmakers' Company in April 1712 with a duty to keep order during meetings. The position of beadle was often given to members in poor health or in some financial difficulty being a paid position. John Drew received charitable payments from the Clockmakers' Company from January 1713 until he died in the autumn of that year, just two years after Joseph Knibb.Ref. Brian Loomes Clocks Magazine.
