A Regency mahogany cased regulator longcase clock, with four pillar movement with triangular plates, dial width 12 inches, with centre seconds and subsidiary hour and seconds dials, in mahogany case with brass capitals to the quarter column corners. Height 73 ins (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The clock is in generally extremely good condition and could be used or resold without the need for any repairs or restoration. The hood is in good order. The silvered brass dial is clean. The movement is fairly clean and the clock is currently ticking away as it should. The clocks movement seatboard is a later replacement. The trunk door is not warped and the mahogany is well figured. The bottom plinth on the clock case is probably a later replacement but of good matching colour and in keeping with the rest of the case. There are some veneer repairs to the bottom rectangular panel and surround.
A George III mahogany longcase clock by Gillet of Manchester, with three-train movement chiming on eight bells with four tunes every three hours, with moon phase, centre date hand and subsidiary seconds dial, with further subsidiary dial for strike and silent and the four tunes, the case being inlaid and boxwood strung and with reeded quarter column corners. Height 96 ins (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: This clock is in generally first class condition. The left hand brass finial has a break across one of the knops which requires a minor repair. The hood is in very good order with no significant issues. The trunk door is flat and not warped and has the odd minor stress fracture but no significant issues. There is a small repair to the top centre arch. The quarter columns and blind fretwork are in good order as is the base and feet which are original. The sides of the clock have old minor stress fractures but no significant issues. The dial and movement are in extremely good condition. The clock is currently ticking and appears to be operating as it should. The clock was purchased from a respected clock dealer approximately 10 years ago. The case and movement are not married. The clock could be enjoyed or resold in its current state without the need for any significant repair or restoration other than the minor problem with the left hand finial.
A George III longcase clock by William Porthouse of Penrith, single pointer, brass dial , 10.25 inch square, with date aperture and Roman numerals. Height 85 ins. CONDITION REPORT: Although the mask around the clock face does fit very well it is likely that the clock case and movement have not always been together. The seatboard has been moved forward and has a supporting bracket beneath. It our opinion the movement is likely to have been a shorter case.
William Taylor of Whitehaven George III mahogany longcase clock, with broken triangular pediment above a transitional arched brass dial and with later electrical movement. Height 87.5 ins. CONDITION REPORT: This clock has a later electrical movement. We cannot ascertain whether this is operational or not. The electric movement is probably 60-70 years old and we do not have the ability to test whether or not it is actually working.
An early Victorian mahogany longcase clock, with swans neck pediment above the arched glazed door enclosing the painted dial with moon phase, the spandrels emblematic of the four seasons and the centre depicting the Empire, dial with 14 ins, and with eight day striking movement, with short trunk door and conforming base. Height 92 ins.
An early 19th century mahogany longcase clock, by George Innes of Glasgow, with circular dial and well figured mahogany case raised on bracket feet. CONDITION REPORT: There is a small section of veneer missing to one of the rounded corners on the pediment. The remainder of the hood is in good order. The trunk door is in good condition and not warped. The base of the clock is similarly in good order. There are some minor scuffs around the bracket feet as one would expect. The movement is reasonably clean and we have the weights and pendulum. We have not had the clock operating as the small metal strip at the top of the pendulum is missing. The clock face is in original condition with strong colours and some minor surface scratches but no significant issues. Both the strike mechanism and going mechanism operate when weight is applied to the pulleys suggesting that with the minor repair to the top of the pendulum the clock is likely to run.
