Gardner, Greenock, a Scottish longcase clock: the eight-day duration movement striking the hours on a bell, the thirteen-inch round painted dial having black Roman hour numerals, subsidiary seconds and date dials and signed Jas. Gardner, Greenock, with blued steel moon hands, the shaped mahogany case having applied carved mouldings to the hood and base of the trunk, with a glazed trunk door, the shaped base with canted corners and a flared plinth, height 205cms.* Biography James Gardner is recorded as working at 14, Hamilton Street, Greenock, Renfrewshire as a watch and clockmaker, jeweller and chronometer maker from at least 1853 and was known to be at number 8 by 1868. * Note Reference Donald Whyte, Clock & Watchmakers of Scotland, pub. John Belling, Bodmyn, an oak longcase clock: the thirty-hour duration movement having a birdcage movement with anchor escapement and striking the hours on a bell with an outside countwheel and shaped hammer return, the ten-inch square brass dial having a raised chapter ring engraved with black Roman hour numerals and meeting-arrowhead half-hour markings with the matted dial centre having a date aperture, with cast-brass c-scroll spandrels to the four corners and a blued-steel single hour hand, the oak case having shaped pillars with cast-brass capitals to the flat-top hood and all decorated with later carving, height 203cms.* Biography The first John Belling, born 1685, is recorded as working in Bodmin, Cornwall (spelt Bodmyn on the dial) until 1761 with his son, also named John and born 1738, working until his death in 1807, this example being made by Belling Snr in the early-to-mid 1700s.

A late 19th / early 20th century century continental carved walnut and stained wood eight day longcase clock, c1900, with Roman numeral chapter ring, subsidiary seconds and date dial, with movement striking on a gong, within an elaborately carved and shaped case decorated with a maiden, 209cm H CONDITION REPORT: There is a fininal lacking and the central finial to the hood is damaged to the block base. The left hand side of the carved swag to the underside of the hood door is lacking. There is a loss to the block detailing to the right finial on the base. The sides of the clock have some hair line cracks. The clock appears to have been overhauled but not toon recently. The movement is not original to the case and may be earlier. The hinges to the door are not original. General age wear patina throughout with some degradation to the varnished finish. Overall appearance ok. The movement may be made up from older clock parts
A George III eight day oak longcase clock, with silvered Roman numeral dial signed 'Jno Oliver Manchester', the matted centre with date aperture and subsidiary seconds and movement striking on a bell, in oak case with bracket feet, 206cm H CONDITION REPORT: The movement may not be original to the clock, the seat board is very thick and in two section (one later to the other). There some holes in the back plate which do not appear to be currently used and a shadow from where a former bracket may have been, The movement may have been altered.
