George III mahogany and brass longcase clock signed James Gandy, Cockermouth England. 8 day movement. Comprised of a molded hood with three brass finials, foliate brass mounts and Corinthian columns with brass capitals; 12-inch arched brass dial with Roman and Arabic chapter ring and a inner calendar ring, center with engraved masonic emblem and engraved "Gandy Cockermouth" lower center, corners of dial with leaf scroll spandrels and the whole surmounted by a circular brass mount engraved in Latin "Tempus Fugit" (Time Flies) and additional scroll spandrels. The trunk with a shaped door and canted sides, rectangular plinth with molded center, canted sides, and bracket feet. 94 1/2" H x 20 1/2" W x 10 1/4" D. English, 2nd or 3rd quarter 18th century. Note: James Gandy arrived in Cockermouth around 1726 and worked there until his death in 1779. CONDITION: Brass works and dial are not original to the case. Clock retains the winding key, case key and two weights. Not tested for functionality. Dial with some light abrasions. Case in overall good condition.

An 18th oak cased longcase clock, of local interest, the silvered dial with Roman hours, signed Hedge & Banister, Colchester, the eight day movement striking on a bell, 210cm. Nathaniel Hedge, born 1710, is recorded as working in Colchester, circa 1740, making lantern clocks, before becoming Hedge & Banister from circa 1780 to 1810, making longcase clocks and pocket watches from premises at 19 High Street in the town.

A brass cased timepiece in the form of a longcase clock, the circular porcelain dial set with Arabic numerals (badly af), featuring ceramic tile to front painted with rural scene, with applied foliate scroll detail to front and sides, with gold painted back plate enclosing simple movement, 26.2 x 10.5cm.Additional InformationThis item appears to have been made up from various components, the dial is set askew and has been badly cracked and damaged throughout. The cornice is lifting and at an angle, there is a small chip to the upper section of ceramic pile. The whole piece has been screwed together with modern screws, back panel coming away from front and is missing some of these screws; backplate has been painted in gold, quite possibly replaced or part of the assortment of different componenets which make up this clock. The clock does not run when wound. Further general wear including scratches, tarnish, rubbing to finish etc throughout, will need attention and restoration.

DUMVILE OF STOCKPORT; an early 19th century mahogany eight day longcase clock with twisted column supports and arched door on ogee bracket feet, the circular dial painted with figures to each corner representing the four known continents, set with Roman numerals and rolling moon phase, approx 242 x 66cm, lacking glass and for restoration, sold with two weights and a pendulum.Additional InformationThere are condition issues throughout, a clock for restoration. The central of the pediment has been off and reattached, there are probably some brass finials to both corners of the hood which have been lost leaving vacant recesses. There has been a split and repaired section to the glaze door, lower right with a further chip to the moulding upper right. There is no glass to the door as stated. The panel to the lower left hand section loose and coming away, some crazing and lifting to the veneer as well as bubbling, some further splits, scratches, nicks, moulding separating and all usual condition issues with these items. The dial numerals in particular are quite heavily rubbed, crazing throughout the dial and some rubbing to detail throughout. The clock was running in the house but there is no guarantee of working order and has not been tested since moving it. For further aspects to the condition please refer to the illustrations and request additional if necessary. This clock comes with two weights and a pendulum.

Clock comes with two weights and pendulum, but it is difficult to say if these are original to the clock or are period replacements. The clock does not come with a winding crank.
