AN OAK EIGHT DAY LONGCASE CLOCK, BARLOW [UNDER LYME], 18TH C ASHTON    brass dial with silvered centre and engraved with emblematical figures, mock dial beneath signature, date and lunar apertures with painted disc, rococo spandels, the oak case in the manner of Gillows of Lancaster  with triangular pediment and blind fretwork,  panelled base, bracket feet, 225cm h, pendulum and lead weights In good restored condition when purchased from the trade by the vendors many years ago. Movement now dusty and requiring a clean/overhaul. Structural repairs to case but in our opinion, dial and movement original to one another and to the case

AN OAK THIRTY HOUR LONGCASE CLOCK, JOHN BOOT, SUTTON [IN] ASHFIELD EARLY 18TH C  the square brass 'cartwheel' dial with stylised foliage on a matted ground, silvered date dial  with flowers and arches to the matted centre, silvered date sector with indicator and ringed winding squares, within signed silvered chapter ring and finely fettled steel hands, mask spandrels, the movement with typical arched cut out at the base of both plates, in a oak and quarter saw oak case crossbanded in pollard oak and inlaid to the trunk door with a star, the hood having ogee pediment and moulded cornice, 199cm h excluding finial John Boot (1705-1767), clockmaker Sutton in Ashfield, Nottinghamshire.  An almost identical dial by John Boot was in the Michael Grange gift to the British Museum (BN Registration No 2010, 8029, 103).  Mr Grange is on record (Antiquarian Horology December 2015, p 497 that in his view the dial was "the most startling decorative dial in the collection". Good condition
