AN OAK AND MAHOGANY LONGCASE CLOCK CIRCA 1780, THOMAS READ, TARPORLEY The eight-day bell striking movement with 13inch arched dial, with moon-phase automaton and silvered Roman numeral chapter ring, signed Thos Read, Tarporley to the centre, the case of traditional 'North Country' form with fluted columns to the hood and quarter columns to the trunk 220cm high overall Condition Report: The case with marks, knocks, scratches, abrasions consistent with age and use old splits and cracks, chips and losses, one piece of moulding missing to the apron above the plinth - this is missing in the catalogue image and has never been present at Dreweatts.The seat board is later pine, the tops of the cheeks also with an inset piece of later timber - the cheeks appear to be the right height, the movement and mask fill the hood and the arch, the sides of the cheeks are grooved and the hood has been sliding in and out here for a long time - there is no clear indications that the elements aren't original. The 13" arched brass dial with gilt masked spandrels and silvered chapter ring surrounding a matted engraved centre with subsidiary seconds dial and calendar aperture, the arch with signed silvered plaque above a rotating moon dial, tune selection lever for Psalm 95, Britons Strike Home, and Charles Dragoons fronting a substantial three train eight-day weight driven movement chiming on six bells and twelve hammers every three hours and striking the hours on a bell. - Provenance details are on the back of the door, an image has been attached.212.5cm highThe clock is in good unrestored condition, the case has a small piece of moulding missing above the hood door on the right side, and there is a shrinkage joint to the base. The lacquerwork is in good order and has been retouched in places. The movement is complete and functions correctly when pressure is applied to the wheels. The clock has weight and pendulum but we have not set the clock up and tested it. The movement is clean and has its original seatboard with no packing under the cheeks.

The clock does not appear to be cut down and is its original base and plinth.

There is also no holes in the cheeks either. In my opinion, the movement is not original to case. The top arch of the hood and the pillars look like they are later. The case looks to have been cleaned and repolished. The base is original. The movement is original to dial and is complete, it ticks and strikes corrrectly but may need a service.

There is some slight pitting in the silvered chapter ring.

The 12-inch square brass dial with engraved wheatear border, crowned double cherubs head spandrels and a signed silvered chapter ring with Roman hour markings and Arabic outer minutes; matted centre dial with cut engraved date aperture, ringed winding holes, subsidiary seconds and steel hands fronting an eight-day five pillar movement with anchor escapement and inside count wheel strike on a bell.260cm high,The case is in very good condition with no losses to the marquetry, the base of the case is original but approximately 8" of the backboard is missing from the base. The movement looks original to case and dial original to movement. The movement is complete and working but will probably need a service, hands have been replaced. Comes with brass cased weights and pendulum. The top caddy is detachable. The measurement to the top of the mould is 218cm. The height without the central finiel is 242cm.

The thirteen-inch arched brass dial with revolving moon phases, cherub head rococo spandrels and silvered chapter ring with Roman hours and Arabic outer minute markings enclosing a florally engraved matted centre with recessed seconds dial and concentric date hand fronting an eight-day 4 pillar movement with anchor escapement and rack striking on a bell.247cm high top of centre finial

A WILLIAM AND MARY EBONISED 30-HOUR LONGCASE CLOCK the slender case with moulded pediment above a pierced frieze and barley twist columns, the trunk door having a D-moulded edge and glass lenticle on box base. The 10" square brass dial with winged cherub head spandrels and silvered chapter ring surrounding a matted engraved centre with calendar aperture and engraved sunburst, signed below the chapter ring fronting a weight-driven movement with finned pillars and outside countwheel hour strike on a large bell.206cm high A good period clock, the case is period and in good condition, the base is original, and there is a crack running up from the bottom of the trunk. The movement sits on the cheeks well and fills the mask correctly, the movement is of very good quality and is complete. The clock has a period weight and pendulum. This clock has come from a very good private vender who has a large collection of period oak and early items. Extra images uploaded.

A LATE GEORGE III SCOTTISH FIGURED MAHOGANY LONGCASE CLOCK the hood with swan neck pediment and satinwood panels above a glazed door with turned columns on slender trunk and box base with circular panel, the 12.5" painted arch dial with painted and gilt floral panels and Roman numerals surrounding subsidiary seconds and calendar dials, the arch having a painted figural scene with lions fronting an eight-day weight driven movement striking the hours on a bell205.5cm high not including finialMovement is original to case and complete, it does work but may need a service. The dial is in very nice condition. The case has a split running down the front of the base, with no other losses or damage.

FRA. REDSTALL, OVERTON. AN 18TH-CENTURY WALNUT AND ARABESQUE MARQUETRY EIGHT-DAY LONGCASE CLOCK the hood with projecting moulded cornice above a blind sound fret, moulded side pillars and side viewing windows. The case with figured panelled sides and profusely inlaid trunk door depicting owls, other birds and scrolling foliage with a centre brass framed lenticle, a matching box base and a moulded plinth. The 12-inch square brass dial with cast mask head spandrels signed silvered chapter ring with Roman hours and Arabic minute markings, matted centre with ringed winding holes, cut engraved date aperture and subsidiary seconds dial fronting a five pillar eight-day repeating movement with anchor escapement rack striking on a bell.220cm highThe clock does have its original caddy which is removable. The movement has been blocked up on the cheeks and in our opinion is not original to the case. The dial is original to the movement and looks to have been cleaned in recent years, and is in good working condition. The case again is in very nice condition with no losses. The base has been restored along the bottom approx 4 inches from the plinth. The plinth is also later. Comes with the original pendulum and lead weights.
