John Smith of Chester - late 18th century mahogany 8-day longcase, brass moon roller dial and three-train movement, with a swans necked pediment, brass paterie and an inlaid oval to the centre, hood door with contrasting banding and scalloped edge, shaped back splats and reeded pilasters with Corinthian capitals, trunk with canted corners, wavy topped door with conforming banding and inlay, square plinth with an applied decorative base, brass dial with scroll spandrels, diagonally engraved dial centre, wide chapter ring with Roman numerals, five minute Arabic's and minute dots, seconds dial, date aperture and steel hands, makers name boldly engraved round the arch of the dial, rack striking movement with a recoil anchor escapement, striking the hours on one bell and the quarters on four. With three brass cased weights, pendulum and key. THOMAS MEAR, DURSLEY - A 19th century 8-day oak cased longcase clock, the 12" enamel and hand painted dial featuring a moon phase and 2 subsidiary dials. Overall dimensions 50x222x25cm.Hood has a swan pediment which is damaged, and if repaired will increase the height. Some pitting to the enamel, with a small section of loss near the 3 o'clock position. Moon phase painting is rubbed in places. Scratch from centre of dial into the 4 o'clock position.
