A GEORGE III MAHOGANY BREAKFRONT LIBRARY BOOKCASE CIRCA 1770 The central cabinet doors opening to a shelved interior 273cm high, 289cm wide, 59cm deep Condition Report: Marks, scratches and abrasions commensurate with age and use. some old repairs. Some old chips and splits. Good colour and patina to the original surface with some fading. Generally in very good presentable and useable condition. Locks throughout appear original and there are keys present to operate them. Slightly unusually the lock to the lower central doors is operated by using the key upside down, however this is something we have seen on period bookcases at times. The glass to the doors appears original or at least of the period. There are no cracks or breaks to the glass panels. A small number of panes have likely been replaced but with glass of the period. Some of the putty securing glass panels from the reverse varies in colour from others. Some hinges of the glazed doors with some screws lacking. They are well secured now but probably best for the buyer to add the screws that are currently lacking. This bookcase is in remarkably good and original condition. The maximum shelf depth is a follows: 31cm to the upper wings, 38cm to the upper central cabinet, 50cm to the lower central cabinet. A REGENCY BLACK LACQUER AND CHINOISERIE DECORATED BOOKCASE CABINET CIRCA 1815 The doors opening to a shelved interior 133.5cm high, 61cm wide, 33.5cm deep Condition Report: Bookcase with the marks, knocks, scratches and abrasions commensurate with age and use. The expected old splits, cracks and chips. All legs appear to have been re-secured. They have later metal bracing and the rear legs sit on later timber blocks. They are all firmly secured but there is some opening to joins. Various re-touching to the decoration and parcel gilt throughout. The surface with various chips, losses, shrinkage cracks and wear. Handle use original holes but could possibly be later well matched replacements. The grille doors and replaced pleated silk backing appear to be very well matched old replacements.
