Edgeworth, Maria. Tales and Novels, in nine volumes plus Helen, London: Whittaker et al., 1848 (Helen published as a tenth volume, by Richard Bentley, also 1848). Uniformly bound in publisher's gilt green cloth. Presentation inscription to the title page of first volume, 'Frederic Potterton, As a token of friendship & approbation of the manner in which he has educated the Nephews of the author of this work, From their Grandmother and Mother, Frances Edgeworth, February 1856', then additionally signed, 'Rosa F. Edgeworth, Edgeworthstown, Feb. 1856'. Each volume is inscribed 'Frederic Potterton'. Together with various correspondence to the Pottertons, dating from 1850 to 1911, much of it written by Rosa Edgeworth, 1850s, some of it headed 'Edgeworthstown'. The books appear to be complete with frontispieces and tissue-guards, but some pages are loose and they have not been collated; some shelf-lean and discolouration to bindings; some dampstaining to opening pages; the letters have some heavy staining. Contents very good, clean, bright; usual very faint toning to page edges; tiny dent/nick to extreme edge of a few pages; one tiny mark on outer page edges; binding very good, laminate entirely present, boards and spine bold and vibrant; slight shelf-lean; very faint wear to extreme corners and outer edges of headcaps; a couple of incredibly faint scratches/impressions to the covers; one inscription in blue ink to rear pastedown, which records the date vendor first read the book to his children; seven magazine clippings relating to the film pasted on opening endleaves and rear pastedown. The author's debut novel and first in the Harry Potter series. Very scarce. Knocks to the plinth and edges.Stained top of the cabinet. Appears to be replaced strip to the lower cupboard.

Shapland & Petter A mahogany bureau:, of small size, the shelved superstructure with a shaped ledge back and citrine glass frieze panel with oxidised metal stylised scrollwork, the moulded panel sloping hinged fall enclosing a fitted interior with pigeon holes, having an open shelf below on shaped openwork end support, 64cm (2ft 1 1/4in) wide.* Stamped S & P to lock.
Shapland and PetterA mahogany coal purdonium:, the ledge back with triple pierced hearts and with serpentine fronted shelf, on waisted square spindle uprights, the hinged box base with cartouche shaped carved panel of stylised cones and foliage, having oxidised meal stylised drop handles to the sides, on block feet, 42.5cm (1ft 4 3/4in) wide, 98cm (3ft 2 1/2in) high.

Measures 56 cm high x 92 cm wide x 38 cm deep.
A pair of 19th century Burmese carved hardwood figural corbels / wall brackets. Each formed as a demon on a ground of open scrollwork supporting a trefoil bow front shelf, 38cm wide, 18cm deep, 35cm high. Provenance; purported as Thoresby Hall, Nottinghamshire, property of the late Lady Rozelle Raynes, inventory number painted to the back of one. Overall very good. Some slight losses to the scroll work.
