A George III oak three tier open wall shelf, with arched top and spindled supports. Width 87 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: Height 59 cm, width 87 cm, depth of bottom shelf 22.2 cm, depth of top shelf 16.4 cm. The coopered arch is structurally sound. Primitive nail heads are visible at the joins and there is very old coopered repair at the right hand side which may in fact be part of the original construction. The top turned pillar is different to the remaining eight turned front pillars which are all similar. They do however all appear to be of the same age. The middle shelf rear pillars are both of different construction. The rear pillars on the bottom shelf are also of different construction and there are two further holes behind this which may have been for other pillars. The bottom shelf is however deeper than shelves two and three although all shelves are constructed in the same manner. The top two may possibly have been reduced in depth but we are really very unsure about this. There are some traces of very old woodworm but this has long gone.

The condition is generally good and is as you see it in the image. There are nibbles and scuffs around the edges and the shelf fronts are all slightly misshapen. It is allover the same colour apart from the ends which are darker having been covered by the tray handles. All four supports have stress fractures on the bottom downswept section but there is no movement and only very small fairly insignificant veneer losses. The lower tier is in good order as are all legs, stretchers and spandrels. We can see no breaks to the lower section.
