A GEORGE II MAHOGANY ESTATE CABINET CIRCA 1750 The upper doors opening to various shelves and pigeon holes, the lower doors opening to a shelved interior214cm high, 94cm wide Provenance: Christie's, Hopetoun House, South Queensferry, Edinburgh Scotland, 20th July 1993, Lot 107 (£6,050). The original lot sticker from this sale is present with the lot. Hopetoun House, one of Scotland's finest stately homes, is an important part of European architectural heritage situated in South Queensferry, outside Edinburgh. Home of the Marquess of Linlithgow, Hopetoun is one of the most splendid examples of the work of Scottish architects Sir William Bruce and William Adam. The house was built 1699-1701 and designed by Sir William Bruce. The house was then hugely extended from 1721 by William Adam until his death in 1748, being one of his most notable projects. The interior was completed by his sons John Adam and Robert Adam. The magnificent entrance hall dates from 1752.The Hope family acquired the land in the 17th century and operated lead mines. Charles Hope, the first occupant, was only 16 years old when his mother, Lady Margaret Hope, signed the contract for building with William Bruce, on 28 September 1698.Condition Report: This estate cabinet has marks, scratches, knocks and abrasions consistent with age and use.There are knocks along the edges of the cornice and variable cracks to the sides.There are concealed spherical wood 'casters' behind the bracket feet.The oak shelves have mahogany sections to the front; the brass and steel locks are of unusual form; the interior sliding door locks of decorative form. The pierced brass escutcheons with some wear to the lacquering.The interior with two sliding shelves, one applied with the Christie's label from 1993.Splits to backboards.One shelf recess to the lower section is void.Please see the additional photographs as a visual reference of condition. A RARE PAIR OF LOUIS XV ORMOLU WALL BRACKETS CIRCA 1745-49 Of ornate bearded mask form, within elaborate pierced scrolling surrounds, bowed shelf with leaf border above, both with 'C' couronné poinçon markeach 22cm wide, 28cm high, tops 12cm deepFor a near identical pair please see Sotheby's, London, Important French Furniture and Clocks, 15th June 1990, Lot 37 (£16,500). The 'C' couronné poinçon was a tax mark employed on any alloy containing copper between March 1745 and February 1749. Condition Report: Overall there is a fine patina of fine scratches and rubbing with some spotting and minor knocks commensurate with age and use.The flat shelf sections are later fixed with round topped metal screws that have given some rust to this area. There is a possibility that the flat top inset shelf section could be later and there are two holes to the back edge of these sections.Please see the additional photographs as a visual reference of condition. A SET OF GEORGE IV MAHOGANY HANGING WALL SHELVES CIRCA 182570cm high, 62cm wide, 17cm deep Condition Report: Marks, knocks, scratches and abrasions commensurate with age and use. Some old minor chips and splits. The second highest shelf with a section of replacement timber inset to the back left corner where it meets the upright (see image). This shelf also has two small old holes to the front corners adjacent to the uprights. The second lowest shelf has a section of replacement timber inset to the back right corner. Later hanging fixtures. There are 'shadows' around the gilt metal finials and feet, suggesting that the current finials/feet are replacements and larger finials/feet sat there originally. Y A GEORGE IV MAHOGANY AND SIMULATED ROSEWOOD BREAKFRONT LIBRARY BOOKCASE CIRCA 1825The lower moulded panel doors opening to shelved interiors252cm high, 261cm wide, 63cm deep For a near identical bookcase, see Christie's, London, 500 Years Decorative Arts Europe, 9th June 2011, Lot 329 (£12,500). Condition Report: Bookcase with marks, knocks, scratches and abrasions commensurate with age and use. Old splits and chips. Some losses to mouldings and veneers. Some ink stains to shelves. All glass panels appear original. One arched panel to the right side door is cracked. Glass bears the expected minor scratches and some bubbling. Some old vacant nail holes to the back of the glazed doors from where a fabric backing was likely once attached. The interior of the central glazed section with remnants of stuck down red paper lining. Some of the shelves to the side section with old stuck down paper labels to the fronts. One lockplate to the upper doors is a later replacement. One lockplate to the lower doors is lacking and has been replaced by a handle. Two keys present but these only operate two of the lock. One of the other locks is seized in the closed position but all doors can be opened. The central glazed door with later lock catch and a metal bracket to the central shelf on which the doors rest against when closed - see images. Some splits to backboards. This breakfront bookcase comprises five seperate sections: the cornice, three upper display sections (2 x single door and 1 x central two door) and the cabinet base.The base measures 91cm high, 261cm wide, 63cm deep.The central display sections measures: 135cm high, 130cm wide, 47cm deep.Please refer to additional images for visual reference to condition. A GLASGOW STYLE MAHOGANY AND MARQUETRY DISPLAY CABINET with overhanging cornice above bevelled glass doors and side panels, the central mirror above a shelf and a pair of base doors, inlaid with pomegranates and meandering foliage, 177cm high, 91cm wide and 41cm deep Condition Report: Both the upper glazed section of the cabinet and the lower closed section are lacking their keys. The key plate for the lower section is absent also. The bolt securing the lefthand lower door has through repeated use worn a groove into the base of the cabinet which remains visible when the doors are closed. The same issue has occurred in the top section but to a much lesser degree. In the lower section there are supports for a shelf, which is not present. There are scrapes and marks to the interior of the lower section commensurate with the cabinet's age and use. All inlaid pieces are present and secure. Over the central inlaid section at the top of the cabinet some varnish has bubbled and cracked. On the righthand side^ just beneath the crown^ the wood is showing a series of very faint cracks running with the grain. The cabinet has sustained knocks and scratches to its edges and corners, primarily over its lower portion. In the marquetry section overhanging the central gallery, one corner has sustained losses and is darker in colour than the surrounding material. On both sides at the cabinet's base, the mouldings have become detached: one piece is present, the other lost.

A quantity of Staples Ladderax comprising six ladders, two glass cabinets, one open cabinets, one drop down cabinet with bird's maple interior, two cabinets with sliding doors, a single drawer/desk, two chest of drawers and two shelves, twenty metal shelf rails, a matching drop leaf table and two ladder back chairs.Condition- some surface marks and scratches to cabinet tops and table. There is one sliding door loose and a slight scratch to one of the glass doors. There are three working keys. Corners are all good. Some surface wear to the leather on the chairs. All cabinet fixtures and shelf bars appear to be present. There doesn't appear to be any Ladderax labels.
