Lot 452

An 18th century oak dresser, the three tier boarded plate rack (cut down) over three drawers and two fielded arched panel cupboard doors flanking a centre panel, on squat stile supports, 169 cm wide x 182 cm high CONDITION REPORTS Although essentially period, this piece has many alterations throughout, so perhaps not for the purist. The top is believed to be associated and certainly proportionally speaking on the short side, but generally in reasonable order. Appears to have had some kind of deliberate ageing / denting to the front uprights, in the form of dents in unlikely areas. Basically in good order. the base has some patches and discolouration to the top and there is a large split between the two planks due to shrinkage. The drawers have replacement brass swan neck handles and are the second or third set to have graced the drawers. The cupboard doors have several holes around the H hinges which are replacements. the panels to the doors have lighter areas to the edge, again suggesting shrinkage. the centre panel has a large split vertically top to bottom. Drawer linings appear to have been replaced. Interior shelf probably a replacement. Side panels with vertical splits to centre top to bottom. Moulding to the base of the piece with scratching and white paint marks left hand side. Stile feet appear to have been cut down.

Lot 457

An 18th century French walnut cupboard with a pair of fielded panelled doors enclosing a shelf over a pair of drawers over two further cupboard doors enclosing a further shelf, raised on stile supports, 108 cm wide x 180 cm high CONDITION REPORTS Top panel a later addition. Cornice missing top left with area of damage and loss above the right hand door, approx 27cm with woodworm top right. The piece has many areas of old woodworm infestation throughout particularly to the right hand side and lower left hand side, right hand side with large split to the top stile, three way split 10 x 3 cm, the front top panel with large split top to bottom along the left fielded section. The centre panel above a stile with large split 25cm along the grain. Rear right foot very rotten looking with extensive woodworm infestation and with replacement back section. Left hand side - both bottom panels with large splits along the grain to the fielded sections. Front lower panel with corner section around the fielded area damaged and repaired approx 10cm. Rear left foot with replacement section. Ironwork to the front all rusty. top left cupboard with nail as peg for hinge. Replacement peg to right hand door top hinge. Peg to lower top door right hinge missing. right hand central drawer with replacement moulded upper section approx 1.5cm deep all along top. Corner of right hand moulding to right drawer missing. Interior base boards in need of replacement - very deteriorated. Catches to lower doors are later replacement magnetic catches. Top doors with locks missing. Bottom right door with lock missing.
