The shelf across the front beneath the turned end supports is a Victorian replacement. The backboards are original as are the side panels. CONDITION REPORT: In our opinion this is a late 17th/early 18th century court cupboard that has been later carved but quite at what age is impossible to tell. The 1572 date is definitely later. The moulded cornice is a Victorian addition. All of the front and side panels are period. The piece comes into two sections and the front shelf is original. The back boards and interior shelves look to be 19th century and are certainly not period planks. The piece of furniture has come from a very good home and is in very good condition. It is perfectly attractive and requires no restoration work but is not a full period piece.
