Paris, 1548. 1st edition, completed on 31st January 1548 & edited by Estienne from the manuscript then in the King`s Library & now in the Bibliotheque Nationale.

CHURCHILL (SIR WINSTON), THE SECOND WORLD WAR; six vols, all first editions, the first volume with a paste down ink signature of Winston Churchill to the half title, black cloths, d.j’s., Cassell & Co, 1948 – 1954, in box (6)Condition Report: The signature is stuck down to the half title on volume 1. The black cloths with general age wear, some minor marks. The jackets lightly browned to the spines, shelf wear to the top and bottom and some chipping and tears to the top and bottom of the spines. Some marks to the covers her and jacket to Vol II with a small hole at the spine. Some marks to the page blocks. Internally with general page toning and some foxing.

Cloth cover with minor rubbing, a light mark to the raised ridge of the spine on the right hand side, shelf wear to top and bottom of the spine. Internally with some minor toning, slightly open at some of the gutters and odd minor foxing. Page block lightly grubby.

All jackets with shelf wear, Vols I and VI heaviest with some chipping. Cloths with some light shelf wear. Page blocks with some marks. Light toning to pages. The signatures appear to be later ones post the date of the books. They are not as crisp as his earlier signatures.
BARNARD (ALFRED), NOTED BREWERIES OF GREAT BRITAIN AND IRELAND, 4 vols, black and white illustrations and advertisements, green cloth with gilt lettering, London, Joseph Causton & Sons, c1890 (4) Condition Report: Bindings with general shelf wear and rubbing. Top and bottom of spines with slightly heavier rubbing / squashing with some rubbing through to the base colour of the cloth in small parts. Vol 1 spine and back board with a lighter / blotchy appearance from old damp blooming. Rubbing to the long spine edges on Vol 4 with a very slight fray just stating in three small 0.5cm areas. Internally patterned end papers with damp staining, and also to all title pages. Internally generally clean with expected light age toning to pages and perhaps odd fox mark here and there. Some pages a little loose at the gathering in parts.The hinges are firm and there is no splitting down the internal gutters of the end papers.Extra images uploaded 28/02/2025.

Plate with infant and two swans with small nick to bottom left corner and residue of light glue on the underside of the bottom edge where with was glued down. Some small wear to the top edge of this plate also. One plate with a small fold to the bottom left corner, about 1cm in length. The following plate with figures eating a buffet with a very small folder over to the bottom left corner. One plate with very slight wear to both bottom corners and a small white patch to the right vertical edge – slightly bigger than Frontis plate with slight knocks to all four corners. 50 plates total. One of the tissue guards with a large loss to corner, three with marks, some with wear and creasing.Treasure Island with general shelf wear to cover and some marks. Ink inscription to front blank. Colour plates as called for – condition ok. Pages with light age wear toning and some foxing.Peter Pan and Wendy cloth grubby and faded around the edge and to the spine. Colour plates as called for – condition ok. Pages with light age toning.

A late 19th Century / early 20th Century French satinwood and marquetry Cabinet, with brass mounts, the arched upper section crested with an oval Serves style painted porcelain panel above a shaped shelf, and an arched and glazed center display section flanked with porcelain mounted pilasters and two narrow cupboard doors to either side, with brass and porcelain mounts on a base with large glazed door flanked with conforming pilasters and raised on a shaped plinth 186cms x 120cms (73" x 47").
