GER/LNER Signal Box Shelf Strip containing 5 boxes with circular labels annotated British Railways Emergency Release – See Train Signalling Regulations Book page 115. Mounted on original backboard 41in long, each box is 4.5in square and 3.5in deep, the first left hand side has been pushed to reveal beneath the paper, a push button. This box is marked 50 RELEASE. Three other boxes marked similarly with different numbers. Reputedly ex Wickford Signal Box. Utilised in the event of a track circuit failure, or some other failure holding the points, the seal could be broken and the button beneath pressed to allow the points to be operated.
