CARMARTHENSHIRE OAK WELSH DRESSER WITH PEWTER early 18th Century, Towy Valley, Carmarthenshire, c. 1720-50, shallow cavetto cornice above open 2-shelf rack, base fitted arrangement of 5 drawers in two registers, shaped apron, chamfered uprights, potboard base, tall bracket feet, 194 (h) x 173 (w) x 51cms; offered with collection of antique pewterProvenance: with Richard Bebb; private collection WiltshireAuctioneer's Notes: published Richard Bebb, Welsh Furniture 1250-1950, vol Two, pp.132-133, and fig 891, in which Bebb refers specifically to this dresser: "Many of the dressers in the south from the middle of the (18th) century bore a resemblance to those from the mid-Wales, such as an example form the Towy valley which had a base with a double row of drawers and deep ogee-shaped apron which was raised clear of the ground by tall bracket feet. A fine quality William IV rosewood inverted breakfront double pedestal sideboard - the mirrored back with foliate scroll and shell brackets, over three convex fronted, mahogany-lined frieze drawers, above a central pair of panelled cupboard doors enclosing two adjustable shelves, flanked by arched panelled doors with foliate and scroll column mouldings, the left side with two open slides, the right side with an open shelf over a nine-bottle lead-lined cellarette drawer, on a plinth base. A mid-century burr walnut cocktail cabinet - 1950s, the centre hinged top and fall front opening on a cantilevered mechanism to reveal a fitted interior with rising mirrored drinks shelf, above a pair of doors enclosing a fitted interior with two removable shelves, an upper drawer and bottle drawer beneath, on shell carved cabriole feet (LWH 82 x 48 x 112.5 cm), some damage to veneers.

A George III-Style Mahogany, Crossbanded, Boxwood and Marquetry-Inlaid Cabinet Bookcase, late 19th century, the fret-carved scrolled pediment inlaid with oval patera and surmounted by an urn, the moulded cornice above an inlaid frieze and lancet-glazed doors enclosing three adjustable shelves, the base of breakfront form with two cupboard doors enclosing a shelf, on stout toupie feet 126cm by 58cm by 233cmProvenance: From the Estate of the Late Lady Buchan-Hepburn The glazed doors are in good condition. Generally good colour and patina. The right-hand cupboard drawer is very slightly misshapen (see image). The left panel is split and bruised (as per image) - the right-hand side is similar. Some general bruises and scuffs, mainly around the hinged cupboard doors (as photographed). Some general scuffs to the top section and escutcheon (as photographed). Some further general bruising around the base section, consistent with age. Otherwise, good. Please see further images online.
A George III-Style Mahogany and Ebony-Strung Lady's Writing Desk, the later curved superstructure with six real mahogany-lined drawers flanked by dummy drawers above a reeded hinged leaf enclosing a vacant interior, on square tapering legs joined by a curved shelf and X-form stretcher, part 18th century and adapted61cm by 47cm by 90cmThe condition is generally good, however, with some light scratches and a water/ring mark visible. The top section has a fault in the polish? The desk is structurally sound. The drawers are mahogany-lined. The escutcheons are bone or ivorine. The superstructure has some movement to the right corner. The measurement between the curved section is 35cm. The total depth from the front flap to the back is 24cm. A Victorian Satinwood, Tulipwood-Banded, Crossbanded and Marquetry-Inlaid Kidney-Shape Writing Table, stamped Edwards & Roberts, circa 1890, the crossbanded top inlaid with scrolling acanthus leaves and ivorine, above a velvet-lined oak drawer stamped Edwards & Roberts, on square tapering supports joined by a kidney-shape shelf, with brass-capped toes and castors77cm by 36cm by 72.5cmThe top has some heat marks and ring marks. The timber is rather dry. Veneers are lifting slightly in places, particularly to one side where an area has been taped down. Structurally, the table is sound. The bottom shelf is scratched and there is some fine splitting. Similar faults to the timber, particularly to the crossbanded edge.
