Y A VICTORIAN WALNUT, BURR WALNUT AND EBONISED OPEN BOOKCASEIN THE MANNER OF LAMB OF MANCHESTER, CIRCA 1870 109cm high, 305cm wide, 42cm deep Condition Report: Bookcase with marks, knocks, scratches and abrasions commensurate with age and use. Old chips, splits and some losses. Some old veneer repairs - see images. Slight bowing to the top. Some additional dark scratches to the top. Filler used in places. Some evidence of old worm. Locks are original but no key is present. Both doors are open, one lock bar is in the open position, the other in the closed position which doesn't allow the door to be fully closed. Eleven brass shelf supports are present, the rest are lacking (should be four per shelf - 32). One of the shelves to the side sections is lacking. Various old later nails securing mouldings and elements. Evidence of old worm. Some old repairs (see images). Section of moulding to one side of the chest detached but present. Turned handles to upped drawer have significant age but are possibly replacements. Handles to central drawer are old replacements. There is a small old filled hole to the central moulded panel of the drawer from where another handle previously sat. The escutcheon to this drawer is lacking. Lock plate to central drawer appears original. No key present, lock is open. Lock to lower doors is lacking. The catch to one door is a later addition. Some later screws to the hinges of the doors. Handles to the interior drawers appear original. The two central mitre moulded elements to the doors with slight variation in the carving of the mouldings. An exceptional Regency period Egyptian Revival brass inlaid Secretaire Side Cabinet, with concave centre with adjustable shelf on open bookcase, and faux drawer, the right hand side with frieze drawer with writing compartments, etc, and a conforming frieze drawer to the left above double brass grill door either side, flanked with Egyptian mask reeded pillars, on a shaped plinth base, approx. 10'7" (322cms) wide x 42" (107cms) high x 19 1/4" (49cms) deep.
