Y A GEORGE III MAHOGANY AND SATINWOOD SIDE CABINETIN THE MANNER OF THOMAS SHERATON, CIRCA 1790Incorporating 'quadrant' corners and wire trellis panelled doors94cm high, 131cm wide, 40.2cm deepProvenance:Private collection, CheshireA pair of cabinets of this exact form were sold Property of a Gentleman, Christies, Important English Furniture, 27th November 2003, Lot 112 (£35,850).Condition Report: Marks, scratches and abrasions comensurate with age and usesome old chips and splits. Some additional old dark marks and scratches to the top (see images) The wire-work panels to the doors are generally in tidy condition with some fairly minimal undulation. The pleated fabric behind is neat and clean and likely relatively recently replaced. Old evidence of fabric being pinned to the reverse of the door panels (as often seen for items of this type and period) (see images) Some natural fading overall and to a slightly higher degree to the top due to its position and cleaning. Lock and escutcheon appear original. Lacking key. The door closes and stays closed currently. May be possible to locate a key to operate the lock if required Original fixed single shelf to the interior. Rear panels original. Some old chips, splits and losses. Various old veneer repairs to edges of shelves. Large split opening across the lowest shelf - see image. There is also filler applied to the lowest shelf in places. Rear block feet are later replacements. Split across backboard of highest shelf. Turned gilt elements are likely later replacements and re-finished. Y A PAIR OF REGENCY ROSEWOOD, BRASS MOUNTED AND INLAID OPEN BOOKCASESCIRCA 1815With Carrara marble topseach 96.5cm high, 53.5cm wide, 35.5cm deepPlease note, one of the marble tops has some orange/brown staining that isn't illustrated in our catalogue images. Please refer to our condition report images which are available upon request.Condition Report: There are losses and observations including: overall scratches, marks, knocks and abrasions in particular to the corners, edges, base and brass inset shelf fronts; the marble tops have chamfered edges and two holes to the underside to fit on previous dowels; one marble top is discoloured; the tops, interiors, backs and undersides of the bookcases are ebonised; on close inspection there are some differences between the two bookcases including the height of the plinth bases, colour variations; fixings of the brass colours some with no hole, a pin hole or screw hole/s, the widths of frame around the panelled backs; there is some evidence of worm; some of the finish has eroded back to bare wood by some kind of liquid with a ring mark to one shelf, a line to one side and to one plinth.Please see the additional photographs as a visual reference of condition.Condition Report Disclaimer

An unusual mid 19th century satinwood campaign bookcase, of stepped three tiered form, each tier with twin panelled doors enclosing a single fixed shelf, width 110cm, depth 34cm, height 177cm***CONDITION REPORT***Looks to be in honest untouched condition, a little faded to the front but the sides retaining good dark strong honeyed treacle striation colour, each section with the original lacquered brass carrying handles, English locks fitted with one key working the top lock but the other two locks locked shut with key lacking, some scattered cracks and minor surface damage throughout but nothing of any severity, small loss of veneer to the front of the right foot, overall an unusual and handsome piece.PLEASE NOTE:- Prospective buyers are strongly advised to examine personally any goods in which they are interested BEFORE the auction takes place. An unusual Anglo-Japanese inlaid mahogany standing corner cabinet, by Holland & Sons, c.1880, of stepped form with open galleried shelves and velvet lined recess over two Japanese cloisonné enamel panel inset doors, flanked by mirrors and a further recess bordered by lacquered panels over a central glazed door flanked by open shelves, raised on turned tapered feet and ormolu mounted throughout, Holland & Sons stamp, width 98cm, height 258cm***CONDITION REPORT***Honest but now slightly neglected condition, rather dirty and dusty, with some oxidisation of the ormolu mounts and a little fading in places, upper recess looks to have the original faded and rubbed velvet lining, central doors have small losses around the edges and probably a loss of an ormolu strip down the centre, they enclose a purple velvet lined interior which again looks original, lock to door is present but no key. Mirrors to either side are oxidised, lacquer panels are a little rubbed and faded, ormolu beading left centre has approximately 2 inches missing and a crack to the wood below, further ormolu beading on the right side has sprung away from the edge, a short section of foliate pattern ormolu missing mid left above the first recess, this has broken away but is still retained with the piece, lower mirrors equally oxidised and lower lacquer panels equally faded and rubbed, main door has original lock and working key, interior has a single fixed shelf and is lined in faded green velvet, Holland & Sons stamp to the top of the main door.PLEASE NOTE:- Prospective buyers are strongly advised to examine personally any goods in which they are interested BEFORE the auction takes place.
