A LATE VICTORIAN STRING-INLAID ROSEWOOD WRITING DESK, the hinged rectangular top opening to reveal a writing slope with gilt-tooled leather inset, drawers and a pair of inkwells, with fall front, raised on string-inlaid square-section tapering legs joined by shelf stretcher, moving on castors. 76cm high, 75cm wide, 42cm deepCONDITION REPORTVeneer lifting front left and back right of lid, surface marks to top. Interior very tidy, velvet worn commensurate with age, small tear to the leather writing slope, veneer crack across interior of lid. No sign of woodworm, the lock no longer works.

Some losses and damage to the tips of the feet. A little water staining and lifting of veneer to the shelf stretcher. Some blistering and lifting and cracks to the veneer around the sides of the jardinière. One of the porcelain panels is cracked.

A quantity of Victorian and later kitchenalia, mostly wooden items including painted spoon rack and utensils, thermometer, breadboard, shortbread moulds, silver teaspoons, and other pastry working utensils etc, together with an oak hanging wall shelf with integrated cupboard, serving tray, aneroid wheel barometer, and a large basket (one shelf and some loose items). All of it used with expected wear and scratches. No notable damage.
A silver cigarette case by John Millward Banks, Chester 1901, 166g engraved R.M, together with a mahogany canteen containing a silver plated dessert service, an oversized silver plated tankard, the thumb piece mounted with a deer head, various cut and pressed glass decanters, three large jars, candlesticks, etc (one shelf) . Two decanters with clouding. Half of the stoppers with chips. No report on the other items in the lot.
