A George II oak hanging wall cabinet, mid 18th century, the moulded cornice above a pair of glazed doors, opening to a shelved interior, 60cm high, 97cm wide, 25cm deepCondition Report: Marks, scratches and abrasions comensurate with age and use. old splits and chips. some old losses. some old repairs. A small filled hole below the escutcheon of the door (possibly from a very small handle) and another similar to the opposite door. The lock to the door has been changed for a later example. There are some old small holes where the screws from the hinges have poked through each side panel. The section of the interior the left side of the cabinet has original apertures making the shelf adjustable. There are apertures to the floor and 'roof' of the opposite side suggesting it would be possible to introduce vertical division(s) . Currently there is a horizontal shelf in position. This may be associated but of the period as the front edge of the shelf is not rounded as the other is.No cracks to glass. Please not this lot should be described as a 'hanging wall cabinet' and not as described in the catalogue. Atleast one of the the glass panels is a later but an old replacement and the putty securing it is fairly crudely applied. Some elements of putty to other panes is lacking but the glass is fairly securely in place. Please refer to additional images for visual reference to condition. Condition Report Disclaimer
A George I walnut and featherbanded secretaire cabinet, circa 1720, the divided domed top above a pair of arched doors, opening to two shelves above a central drawer fronted by two false drawer fronts flanked by a drawer on each side, the lower section with a secretaire fall fronted drawer, opening to an arrangement of drawers and pigeon holes, above three long graduated drawers, on shaped bracket feet, 219cm high, 109cm wide, 54cm deep For a related form secretaire cabinet see Sothebys London, 10th July 2013, Lot 25 (£18,750). Old splits, chips and losses. some old repairs and replacements. some old worm damage.some fading overall.The handles and escutcheons appear to be replacements but of the period. (see images) There are alternate plugged holes adjacent at each position. The two false drawers to the interior drawer of the cupboard have plugged holes from previous handles, there are now no handles present there. The lock to the fall front drawer appears to be a replacement (due to slender sliver of timber adjacent) but a fine example of period. There is a key present to operate. The same key operates the drawer locks beneath. some pins/ screws lacking from locks. some screws are later associated. The handles to the drawers of the secretaire drawer appear original. The velvet inset to the secretaire (writing surface) is later but in keeping with period style. The key is present to operate the lock of the upper cabinet doors. The feet are later associated and mahogany but of a form closely related to that which one might expect if of bracket type, The cabinet may have been on bun feet however the holes that one might expect to the floor of the the cabinet for bun feet to engage into. There is later neatly stuck down material covering the top of the cabinet. The 'roof' has all been black painted as has the interior of the upper cupboard section. (apart from shelf fronts and drawer fronts. The rear panels of the upper cupboard section have been later replaced. Please refer to additional images for visual reference to condition. A late 19th/early 20th century Adam style gilt framed mirror, with urn and bellflower motif to the arch, with rectangular mirror beneath flanked by moulded bellflower ornament. Height 115 cm, width 61 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The frame is softwood with gesso and gilding over. As you will see form our image there are losses to the gesso - top right hand corner beneath the arch. There is also a loss to the bellflower moulding to the left of the swag on the vase. The main mirror frame has some minor nibbles to the gilding and gesso. There is a loss to the bottom right hand moulding. The shelf surround again has small losses to the giltwood and gesso. The bottom of the shelf bracket is missing moulding all the way round. There are further nibbles to the gilding and gesso. The left hand side bottom edge of the mirror is missing some moulding. This is partially missing on the right hand side and would be probably be best removed to match up. The mirror plates is in generally good order with only minor blemishes.
A Victorian mahogany bookcase on cupboard in two sections, the top half with a moulded cornice above a pair of arched glazed doors enclosing shelves flanked by foliate corbels, the base fitted with two drawers with centre tablet and with pair of well figured panelled cupboard doors beneath with shelf and plinth base. Width 130 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: Depth of base at deepest point 49 cm. Height of base 86 cm. Width of base 127 cm.
A Victorian mahogany framed shop display cabinet, bowfronted with rear opening door. Height 74 cm, width 48 cm, depth 51 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The cabinet is in generally good order. It is structurally very sound. All glass panels are in good condition with no cracks. We can see no evidence of any repairs or restoration. There is no evidence of any woodworm. The colour is generally uniform. There is no glass shelf although the supports are present. The door closes as it should and is not warped. The hinges are original.
An Art Deco walnut veneered cocktail cabinet, with carved moulded edge and fitted with a series of drawers and cupboards. Height 121 cm, width 136 cm, depth 38 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The height of glass shelves is top 30 cm, middle 31 cm, bottom 30.5 cm. the depth is 31 cm and the width 30.5 cm. There is a single half depth shelf in the centre section - height from base to bottom edge 36 cm, height from top of shelf to top of cabinet 30 cm.
A Victorian mahogany shop display cabinet, with four turned finials, glazed and mirrored upper section and raised on turned legs with stretchers. Height 141 cm, width 46 cm, depth 46 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The cabinet is in good original condition. The rear right hand finial may possibly be a replacement. It is a slightly different colour and slightly less well turned than the other three. The framework to the upper section is in good order all round and clearly original. The doors are not warped. There are no cracks to the glazing. There are some nibbles to the corners and edge of the plate glass shelf. The mirrored plate beneath has some signs of perishing and again minor edge nibbles. The base is in good original order with no significant issues. We can see no evidence of any woodworm.
