A Louis XV / XVI Transition period marquetry bonheur du jour, 18th century, with a three quarter galleried top, over two small cabinet doors, with a void between, over a writing surface and single drawer, on cabriole legs united by a platform, the whole with decorative marquetry, including vases, books and other household objects, 95cm high, 63cm wide Period from 1.1.22 to 31.12.22 The exporter of the product covered by this document GB857798153000 declares that, except where otherwise clearly idicated these products are of French origin. EXW Watlington HS Code 970600 Weight approx 50KgsCondition reportThe general condition of this compact and attractive Bonheur du Jour is good. There is very slight worm damage to the base of the shelf. It looks long ago dealt with and does not compromise the piece. The main drawer may need a slight adjustment to regularly run smoothly. The mounts are all present and in good condition. There is some cracking to the ‘writing’ surface of the top. (See image) Legs are sound. Please note the two cabinets are currently locked. We do not have a key, but in my experience they are generally easy to open with a good locksmith. We do have a box of assorted old keys on site and will attempt to open them. One small piece of marquetry ‘bottle’ is missing on the top left corner
A Heals limed oak Cupboard, circa 1930's, with single frieze drawer above panelled cupboard door, labelled with circular Heals plaque, chipboard shelf added later, W 68cm x H 91cm x D 50cm. Provenance: from a house on the south Devon coast, the family bought the house in 1936 and furnished it mainly from Heals, the house has been in the same family until now, and this is the first time that the furniture from that house has come to market.
A vernacular Folk Art style set of oak hanging shelves; chip carved top above a hinged compartment carved in 17th century style with flowerheads within a running guilloché design, lower shelf below (45.5cm wide x 13cm deep x 21.5cm high)Condition Report: In the Auctioneer's opinion the item is from the 19th century (in 17th century style). The hinges have two pins at the top of the flap and are positioned at the end of the top (obscured). There is not sign of any deliberate aging to the piece and the carving is of very good quality and there is a probability that the back of the piece has been replaced at some stage (it appears much newer) as there are two redundant recesses.
An Edwardian period walnut bookcase cabinet; outset cornice above two glazed doors enclosing shelves, single full-width drawer with Art Nouveau style stamped handles and further over two fielded panel doors enclosing single shelf, raised on bracket style feet (93.5cm wide x 41cm deep x 206cm high)
