A GOOD LATE GEORGIAN MAHOGANY SIDE CABINET in the manner of Gillows of Lancaster, c.1790-1800, having a hinged rectangular top with reeded edge, opening on brass quadrant supports to reveal a shaped division and two compartments of differing depths, the front with two cockbeaded dummy drawers with wooden knob handles, above two matching mahogany lined drawers (one inscribed in pencil "John Savage" and two panelled cupboard doors enclosing a shelf, on a reeded base and bracket feet, 111cm x 57cm x 98.5cm high, (43in x 22.5in x 38.8in) *** * John Savage was a cabinetmaker employed by Gillows of Lancaster around the end of the 18th century . His signature and many of his designs can be found in Boynton, Lindsay, Gillow Furniture Designs 1760-1800, The Bloomfield Press. 1995.
