AN INDIAN EBONISED SERVING TABLE, the rectangular top with moulded border above two frieze drawers with lion mask handles, on cabriole legs with pad feet and shelf stretcher, Calcutta, c.1920, 37.5" high x 42" wide

Lot 1357

AN ART DECO STYLE HARDWOOD DESK, the rectangular top on twin pedestals with rounded uprights, open shelf and short drawers with satinwood veneered compartments, 30" high x 65" wide

Lot 448

A fine early 18th Century figured walnut Kneehole Desk of pleasing proportions, the quarter veneered banded and crossbanded moulded top above an arrangement of one single full width drawer, a smaller kneehole flush drawer below and cupboard door enclosing a shelf and further flanked by three smaller square drawers each side, raised on bracket feet, together with original Mallett & Son purchase invoice for June 18th 1959 for £395, also detailing that the piece was purchased at The Antique Dealers Fair, Grosvenor House, Park Lane, W.I., together with later (dated 1st December 1972) Mallett valuation for insurance on letterhead CONDITION REPORT: There has been some work to the front right hand foot with a fresh block and what appears old repairs etc., the back right hand foot look like it may have had some work as does the left hand foot. The block looks original on the left hand foot back and there is no block on the left hand front foot. There has been work on the feet. See images. Below the locks visible from the inside are circular plugs and there are also shadow marks around the top of the handles visible from the outside so it is honest to say that the handles although having been on the drawers for a long time we do not think they are original. The handles are fixed with mostly hexagonal nuts which do not seem to be particularly in period. In general, looking at the top which is cross banded and quarter veneered this is faded and there are the usual surface scuffs, scratches and marks commensurate with age. The sides of the desk has old original natural splitting and has been restored (filled) many years ago. The back of the piece seems in reasonable condition with the stained pine being sealed with hessian style tape. The colour overall is quite pleasing and it gets darker towards the bottom where the moulding is as expected. The drawers are oak lined, the linings of the drawers run from front to back and the sides of the drawers exhibit curved edge to the top. One or two minor pieces of veneer towards the bottom facia of the front of the feet are off and have been replaced. Generally although not absolutely 100% original a nice good looking piece with the original Mallet & Son purchase invoice for June 18th 1959 from £395 detailing that the piece was originally purchased at the Antique Dealers Fair, Grosvenor House, Park Lane, W1.Dimensions: 77cm wide x 50.5cm deep x 72.5cm high
