2nd millennium BC. A bronze palstave axehead of Shelf Type, Trident Variant with substantial blade, thick triangular sides, lateral loop, rugged mid-stop and three raised radiating lines below, gently flared blade with rounded edge. Cf. Schmidt, P.K. & Burgess, C.B. The Axes of Scotland and Northern England, Prähistorische Bronzefunde, Ab. IX, vol. 7, Munich, 1981, item 875. 499 grams, 6.5cm (6 1/2"). Property of a Norfolk collector; previously in the Simon Camm collection; found near Stanshop and Ilam, Peak District, UK, before 2000; accompanied by a copy of a collector's information sheet. Fine condition, chipped.
A 19th Century mahogany secretaire bookcase, the upper part with galleried top and angled cornice, fitted one adjustable shelf enclosed by a central glass panel and two glazed doors, the base with deep secretaire drawer, the fall front opening to reveal eighteen pigeon holes and eight small drawers, the base fitted six shallow and three deep drawers enclosed by a pair of panelled doors, on plinth supports, 53.5ins wide x 24ins deep x 81ins high (top and base possibly associated)
A Japanese hardwood and shibayama hanging three-tier corner cupboard, the whole fretted and carved with floral leaf scroll ornament and birds, the upper part with shaped cresting, fitted cupboard enclosed by a pair of lacquer doors inlaid with bone, fitted open shelf and cupboard under enclosed by a pair of similar doors, 26ins (66cm) wide x 45ins (114.3cm) high
A William and Mary period oak court cupboard. The frieze is carved with trailing vines, inscribed R. S. G and dated 1700. The centre section with turned pendants and three panels incorporating two cupboard doors is further decorated with fruiting vines. Raised over a base section with two drawers and another pair of cupboard doors. With reeded mouldings and iron hinges, 150cm high, 121cm wide, 41cm deep.Condition report intended as a guide only.Mostly original. Some alterations including door locks. Very good colour. Top boards probably replacements, the timber is ancient with the front board having a split on the left hand side, the rear most board cracked from the right to the centre and with cured infestation to the left back corner.Top section lacking shelf with some supports still in place. Back boards all running horizontally, of sturdy oak and chamfered to fit into the frame, thought to be original. Some more signs of wood worm damage to the rear. Drawer runners likely replaced. Inner shelf an oak faced softwood replacement as is the base board.
A late 18th / early 19th century kingwood bombe commode. The metamorphic top folding and converting two a two tier shelf, with a side drawer and two candle slides. With three graduated drawers having ormolu scrollwork handles and raised on splay bracket supports, 88cm wide, 76cm high, 57cm deep.Condition report intended as a guide only.Left slide missing handle. Some slight veneer chips. No key. Good colour.
