Adams (Douglas) The Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy, first edition, The Hitch-Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy LP purchase slip from the publisher loosely inserted, light marginal toning, fore-edge a little spotted, original wrappers, light creasing to corners, slightly shelf-lean, 8vo, 1979. *** The true first edition of this keystone of 20th century sci-fi literature.The conceit was originally a radio series, broadcast in 1978 on BBC Radio 4, with Adams later developing the Hitchhiker's Guide into a "trilogy" of five books which sold more than fifteen million copies during his lifetime. Soon after this paperback release, the first hardback edition was released by Arthur Barker Publishers, noted by collectors for its appearance or lack of the "Capricorn One" advert on the rear panel.

A PAIR OF PINE OPEN BOOKCASES COMPRISING 19TH CENTURY ELEMENTS 203cm high, 82cm wide, 28cm depth Condition Report: Good, structurally secure with wear and tear consistent with age and use. These are made from elements of a fitted bookcase so they are reconstructed with later elements, notably the brown painted side panels. There are some redundant nail holes to the mouldings and the right stile of one bookcase has a horizontal cut. The leather shelf edging is worn and frayed.Shelves are 25cm deep, and spaced 34cm apart. Note the top shelf with an overhanging frieze so the visible height above the top shelf is 27 cm.
