An early 19th century Gothic Revival carved hexagonal jardiniere Possibly to a design by A W N Pugin the top with moulded edge and reversible solid (with baize lined verso) panel above a 'hob nail' carved frieze centred by quatrefoils, on six slender moulded uprights headed by lancet arches and trefoil spandrels, the moulded plinth base with a broad frieze of pierced tracery enclosing a metal lined void 44cm wide, 73cm high, 44cm deep Ackermann's Repository advertises a similar jardiniere by Pugin, in the colour frontispiece for 'Pugin's Gothic Furniture', with flowers decorating both the top shelf and the base. This design, with its baize underside, incorporates an option for games or writing as well as presenting a floral display.
