Provenance: Baron Northwick (2nd Baron Northwick, 1770-1859, art collector), bookplate. Extremely scarce, only one copy traced at auction over 100 years ago. Danish scientist and numismatist Georg Zöega (1755-1809) catalogued and described Cardinal Stefano Borgia's collection of coins and manuscripts in the Museo Borgiano, at the Borgia Palace of Velletri, a collection with a strong emphasis on ancient Egypt, regarded as the most extensive in Europe before the Napoleonic expedition.

Sequel to the well-received Ruins of Palmyra, presenting a study of Balbec's architectural ruins through an extensive series of plates, which Wood believed communicated the grandeur of the ancient city. Located in modern-day Lebanon, Balbec was once the Roman colony Heliopolis. Plate numbers present are 4-16, 18-40 & 43. Sold as a collection of plates, not subject to return.

Pipes mainly smoked, four unused, some with heavier wear, all generally consistent with age
