A Regency rosewood side cabinet, the brass three quarter gallery on a marble top, on brass supports, the base with a marble top above a pair of doors with brass grills, flanked by tapering circular columns, 146.5 cm wide See illustrationReport GHVarious veneer losses, particularly to edges and corners.Loss to the floral detailing on the left hand side on the frieze. Also various small losses.The marble shelf at the top has been cracked and re glued in the middle.Various other chips and small damages to marble.No obvious visible woodworm. Generally looking a bit tired and in need of restoration. See photos.

each designed as a cushion shaped harlequin cut golden citrine in a cushion border pavé set with fancy colour light cognac diamonds spanned at the corners by claws pavé set with white diamonds, round brilliant cut as the coloured ones, gold backs, spring clip fittings, London laser hallmarks for 18ct gold, with maker's mark, and further signed 'RHR' and stamped '750', maximum width 2.1cmFootnote: Other notes: Rodney Rayner started his jewellery business at the age of 26, and is now celebrating over 30 years in business. He says: "All my centre stones are specially cut for each individual design, nothing is 'bought off the shelf', they are a major part of the overall design, and cut to our own requirements. We are a four times winner at the 'Couture Awards' (the Oscars of the jewellery industry) for 'Best Design in Colour', and have been nominated an unprecedented ten times."

Melville (Herman). White Jacket; or, the World in a Man-of-War, 2 volumes, 1st edition, London: Richard Bentley, 1850, a few minor spots and pale stains, yellow endpapers and pastedowns with publisher's advertisements (front pastedowns and volume II rear pastedown with small adhesion residue and abrasions with resultant loss of lettering, very small shelf number and annotations to volume I front and rear pastedowns), original blue cloth, upper covers with square-rigged ship decoration in blind and anchor in blind to lower covers, spines (faded to green) lettered in gilt, small light stains to volume I upper cover, 8vo (Qty: 2)NOTESBAL 13661. Very scarce, only two copies sold at auction in the last 50 years in 2003 and 2006. Fine copy of the true first edition, preceeding the first American edition by two months and one of only 1,000 copies printed, The first American edition was published by Harper & Brothers, New York in an edition of 4524 copies, and a second issue, with cancel title-pages was published by Richard Bentley in a single volume in London in 1853. Melville's fifth novel, published a year before Moby Dick, drew on his experiences aboard the frigate USS United States from 1843-44, the title derived from the main character's coat which he had fashioned to withstand the rounding of Cape Horn. The novel, with its graphic depictions of the harshness of naval life and arbitrary use of flogging was very influential in the abolition of flogging as a punishment in the US navy by the US Congress in September 1850.
