Opera Omnia 2 vol., device on titles, decorated initials, worming to first few ff. of vol.I, vol.II title with hole in lower margin repaired, fore-edge frayed, marginal tear to next f., few other marginal tears, browning and marking, vol.I gathering Nn misbound, contemporary limp vellum, overlapping edges, large calligraphic titles in black on spines, fore-edges decorated in ink, with author, title and vol. number inside elaborate cartouches, not uniform, vol.I with marmoset (?) at head and roses at foot, vol.II with rat at head and apples at foot, rubbed, creased and stained, fore-edges little torn, vol.I small repair at head, vol.II spine defective and repaired at foot, new endpapers, small stamps on titles, ink shelf mark on vol.I, bookplates, folio, Cologne, in Officina Birckmannica, sumptibus Arnoldi Mylii, 1602. ***This form of fore-edge decoration is decidedly uncommon, and, as a long bibliographical note tipped-in at the start of vol. I suggests, can perhaps be ascribed to Spain, where some books in the Escorial library were still arranged with the elaborately decorated fore-edges outwards..
