An Arthur Simpson of Kendal two tier occasional table. Height 56 cm, diameter 62.5 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The table is in extremely good original condition with no significant issues. The top is flat and not warped. There are no significant marks or stains. The same comments apply to the shelf. The supports, legs and stretchers are all in good order with no splits. There is no evidence of any woodworm.
A William IV rosewood bookcase, in two sections the top half fitted with a series of adjustable shelves, the base with moulded edge also above open shelves and raised on a plinth. Height 163.5 cm, width 228.5 cm, depth 34 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The height is actually 163.5 cm. The width at the cornice is correct at 228.5 cm and the maximum depth at the waist is correct at 34 cm. The bookcase is generally of good quality and in good structural order with only minor issues. The very top surface is very dirty and dusty. The crossbanded edge to the cornice has small sections of banding missing on the left and right-hand returns. The sides of the top both have some veneer losses to the bottom right-hand edge. The pilasters to the upper section are in good order as are the shelf fronts. The top of the base is in generally good condition. There are no splits. There are some old liquid marks and minor surface scratches but no difficult issues. The moulded edge is in good condition all round. The sides of the base are in generally good order. The right hand side has some polish issues. The base pilasters are all in good order. The plinth base has the usual marks and scuffs that one would expect. The backboards are original. We can see no evidence of any woodworm.
A George III mahogany dressing table, with shallow upstand moulded edge and five frieze drawers with brass drop handles, with turned legs, low shelf and brass castors. Height excluding upstand 76.5 cm, width 91 cm, depth 49 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The table is structurally sound. The top is flat with no splits but does have old ring and liquid marks and surface scratches. The upstand is in good order all round as is the moulded edge. The sides are in good condition with no splits. The drawers all run smoothly. The handles if not original cover any old handle holes. The legs are all in good order and free from any repairs. The clusters are original. The shelf has liquid discolouration but no cracks. The backboard is original. We can see no evidence of any woodworm.
An Islamic inlaid games table of typical form, the top hinging to backgammon and chess playing surfaces, the whole raised on cabriole legs with low shelf. Height 69 cm, width 62 cm, depth 32 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The table is structurally very sound. There are no loose joints. The top is in generally good condition with only minor losses to the veneers around the corners. The lowest section of the top (the stepped area) has more significant losses to the veneers as should be visible from the image. The front edge of the lowest tier also has veneer losses. The same comments apply to the sides of all tiers. The interior playing surface is in generally good order with only very minor losses to the marquetry. The interior condition is generally very good. The frieze and legs again have minor losses and loose veneers particularly around the feet area. There are substantial veneer losses to the rear bottom sections of both back legs. There is no evidence of any woodworm.
A George III mahogany bedside cabinet, with single door and drawer raised on legs of square section with shaped shelf. Height 77 cm, width 38 cm, depth 36.5 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The cabinet is structurally sound and in generally good order. There are some minor scuffs and marks to the top surface but no splits or warping. The drawer closes as it should. There is minor veneer loss to the left-hand side of the door handle. The drawer is in good order as are the sides, legs and shelf. The rear panel which is also mahogany has a full width stress fracture. There is no evidence of any woodworm.
A Victorian walnut Canterbury whatnot of two tier form, the rectangular moulded upper shelf on carved and turned supports above a base with central dividers, a frieze drawer and raised on turned feet and castors. 96 cm high, 56 cm wide, 40 cm deep. CONDITION REPORT: Please note this is walnut not rosewood. The condition is generally very good. The piece is structurally sound. The fretwork pediment is in good condition all round. The top is not split and has no lifting veneers and is of good colour. All fretwork to the base is in good condition with no issues and all turned spindles are present and in good order. The drawer runs smoothly. The legs are original as are the castors. There are no loose joints. We can see no evidence of any woodworm.
A Victorian mahogany chiffonier, the upper section with two shelves and carved cresting rail above a lower section with cupboard doors and single shelf interior. Height 139 cm, width 110 cm, depth 50 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The chiffonier is structurally sound and in generally good condition. The rear scrolling pediment is a little loose. The pediment has had two breaks which have been glued together but there are no losses. The shelves are in good condition. The top is almost unmarked and has no splits. The drawers run smoothly. The doors are in generally good order. There are no significant splits to the panels. The sides are in good condition as is the plinth base. Whilst the lock is present we do not have a key. The door is not locked.
An early 19th century rosewood whatnot stand, with brass gallery moulded edge and fitted with a drawer to each tier raised on turned legs with castors. Height 76 cm, width 51 cm, depth 51 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The stand is structurally sound. It is likely to have been originally a four tier stand which has been reduced in height. The top surface has numerous ring marks and scratches to the polished surface. There are however no splits. The gallery is present all round. The half round moulding has a loss of about 10% to the right-hand side. The top drawer has losses to the cockbeading. The bottom drawer has a damaged handle. The top drawer handles are odd. The lower shelf has watermarks but is not split. The legs are all original as are the castors. We can see no evidence of any woodworm.
