Its first live outing with Mott The Hoople was at the Pier Pavilion, Felixstowe, 3rd July that year. Its second was at the now-infamous concert at the Royal Albert Hall on 8th July. Mott were booked to play two nights at the prestigious venue but their 'over-enthusiastic' fans caused such damage to the Hall that the second night was cancelled. In March 1972, following this and disturbances from other bands' audiences, the venue decided to ban all rock concerts. However, the ban was short-lived.This Hammond featured in every Mott live concert, excluding those in the USA, and on all studio recordings – including the top-three charting UK single and band's fifth, breakthrough album, All The Young Dudes - until Verden left the group in January 1973. It was then used for various projects over the years before being back in the spotlight for Mott's 40th anniversary reunion concerts at the Hammersmith Apollo in October 2009 and the five-date tour in November 2013.The Hammond C3 organ is identifiable by its walled slides and sleeker, angular cabinet style. The internal components are otherwise largely identical to the earlier B3 model. The Eagle-shaped fitting to the back of the organ was bought by Verden in the early 1970's to cover a small hole to the organ casing. It was acquired from a militaria shop called 'Call To Arms' in London's Camden Passage, run by Chris Farlowe (who reached number 1 in the charts with the Jagger/Richards composition Out of Time in 1966).This lot is subject to the following lot symbols: TPTP Lot will be moved to an offsite storage location (Cadogan Tate, Auction House Services, 241 Acton Lane, London NW10 7NP, UK) and will only be available for collection from this location at the date stated in the catalogue.
