The American edition was published in a print run of 750 copies, five days after the English edition had appeared. The Hawk in the Rain had won the First Publication Award in a competition conducted by the Poetry Centre of the Young Men's and Young Women's Association of New York, and judged by the poets Stephen Spender, W.H. Auden, and Marianne Moore. The book was very well received, with W.S. An Edwardian mahogany framed mirror backed shop hanging display cabinet. Of rounded rectangular form with curved glass single door and adjustable shelves. 64.5 wide x 93 cm high x 16.5 cm deep. Shelf size 56 cm long x 9.9 cm deep. Mirror back size 84 cm high x 54 cm wide (note: mirror back fitted in three pieces.The locks are keyed alike but the top lock keeper of the top lock doesn't locate into the mortice. I think this is due to some warping to the back upright. Given a little pressure on the top the keeper locates, this isn't practical in usage, and remedial work will be required.Condition report: No apparent major defects

A fine early 18th century walnut bureau cabinet; the double domed top surmounted with later finials above two mirrored doors opening to reveal a complex multitude of varying sized and shaped drawers, top shelf space and a pair of tall, concave central doors opening to reveal four smaller half-width drawers within and two Classical-style stop fluted columns over three further concave-fronted drawers, two candle slides above a cross-banded and feather banded angular fall with double D moulding and having a book rest opening to reveal the bureau interior with pigeon holes and further varying sized drawers and above two half-width drawers over a waist moulding with three full-width graduated drawers below within double D mouldings, raised on later bun feet (professionally restored and with some later additions/woodwork) (approx. 231cm high x 103cm widest x 66cm deepest)
