Antquity.- Drakenborghius. - Antiquitatum Romanarum Descriptio, part 1 only, manuscript, 312pp, text confined to left-hand half of each page, with some notes on the right, little marking, shelf-mark on paste-down and fly-leaf, contemporary half vellum, worn, spine defective, 4to, [eighteenth century]. Spine labelled `Dicata Diligentissimi Drakenberghi ad Antiq. Rom. Burmanni Pars I`. Presumably an (apparently unpublished) commentary on or expansion of Petrus Burmannus` short Antiquitatum Romanarum brevis Descriptio (Frankfurt 1742 and later).
Culverwell (Nathaniel) - An Elegant and Learned Discourse of the Light of Nature, separate title to Spiritual Opticks , some neat contemporary translations of the Greek in margins, title a little dust-soiled and creased with shelf-numbers, fore-edge nearly reinforced, library level on reverse, modern full calf, gilt, [Wing C7569], 1652. Rare. Culverwell, one of the principal scholars of the seventeenth century, delivered this important series of sermons in the chapel of Emmanuel College Cambrdge in 1645-46. In them he examines the relationship between reason and faith, and forms one of the first attempts in English Protestantism to stress the role of reason in ethics and to develop a doctrine of natural law .

An Arts & Crafts Moorish style mahogany writing desk in the manner of Christopher Dresser, with single shelf and two drawer superstructure above writing surface with two side drawers below, raised on four outstretched turned legs 125 x 65 x 50cm (49 x 25 x 20in) The baize top is worn and torn, lifting at the edges. There is a water mark to the shelf. The front corner joints to the superstructure have been repaired. General wear commensurate with age and use.
