A good George III mahogany cupboard bookcase of small proportions - the carved dentil cornice over a pair of boxwood-strung, 13-pane astragal glazed doors, enclosing a velvet-lined interior with two adjustable shelves, over a single panelled drawer with later ring brasses, above a pair of conforming panelled doors flanked by muntins with similarly shaped reserves, enclosing a single shelf, on shaped bracket feet. (LWH 96.5 x 21 x 173.5 cm)* Condition: Good colour and condition overall but we believe that the cornice is a later replacement or has been altered. The bookcase and base sections appear to be original to each other. Original glass, later handles. There are losses to the boxwood stringing to the underside of base section top at both front corners. The boxwood stringing from the top of the RH door panel is detached (but present) and the stringing to the left hand door is lifting in the same place. The doors have a gap between them, probably due to the shrinkage. Small veneer chips to left foot. The joints near the front corner of both sides on the base section are separating slightly due to shrinkage.
