An unusual, profusely carved Mahogany and other woods Envelope Table depicting a Peacock, an Antelope/Ibis, an exotic bird and stylised foliage, with shaped lower shelf uniting the carved detail square legs. 17 7/8'' square extending to 25 1/2'' square x 29 1/2'' high, one hinge lacking a pin.

Produced by Allied Newspapers to commemorate the inauguaration of the Shakespeare Memorial Theatre, Stratford-on-Avon. Miniature Book The Mite. E.A. Robinson, 1891. Org. cloth, upper board decorated in gilt; pp. 26; 6 full page illus (seemingly lacking pp. 15-16). 2nd ed. (according to title-page) in the same year as the first. The Mite was produced as the smallest book in the world printed from moveable type. It held this distinction until 1897, when Galileo a Madama Cristina de Lorena was published by the Salmin Brothers in Padua. It remains an impressive, and rare, example of the art of typography and the 19th century drive to push the boundaries of what was possible with technology.Some scuffing to bookcase, a little shelf wear to books, edges dusty, spines of 2 heavily faded but others less faded than often the case, a very good set. Duplicate copies of the Tempest and no copy of Macbeth.
