A 19th century mahogany longcase clock the eight day movement with anchor escapement, painted arched dial depicting Mary Queen of Scots and the home nations as young ladies, Roman numerals, subsidiary date and second dials, the swan neck pediment with brass ball finials over arched hood door flanked by fluted Doric columns, boxwood and ebony inlaid panel, moulded crossbanded trunk door, another similar panel, crossbanded plinth base, raised on bracket feet 230cm high
A collectable circa 1900 child`s toy, a brown plush Elephant with Ivory/bone tusks and black bead eyes, seated on it`s haunches it`s trunk held aloft, mounted on a turned hemispherical Boxwood base having a lead weight incorporated giving it a self-righting action. 6 5/8`` tall overall. Surprisingly good condition. Probably by Steiff.

Eardley, Aberavon, with moon phase to the arch over a subsidiary seconds dial and calendar aperture, the flamed case with short door inlaid with chequered banding and flanked by cabled turned columns, with further chequered banding to the trunk and base, surmounted by a wavy rounded arched cornice, 85" high
Duncan, London, a mahogany longcase clock, the eight-day duration movement striking the hours on a bell with the thirteen-inch painted arched dial having black Roman numerals, a subsidiary seconds dial, blued steel hands, painted flowerhead decoration to the four corners & arch, signed `Duncan, London`, the associated mahogany case having shell inlay to the door and base, boxwood & ebony chequered stringing to the trunk and door, canted corners to the trunk, with the hood having fluted pillars with brass Corinthian capitals, fluting below the cornice to the break-arch top and wavy moulding to the hood door, the swan necked pediment with octagonal paterae and a turned brass finial, height: 208cms. * Quite possibly the James Duncan who is recorded at a number of addresses in London, including Chancery Lane from 1780 until 1819, and also at St. James`s Street.
Jacob Ballin, Wells, a mahogany longcase clock having an eight-day duration movement striking the hours on a bell, the twelve-inch painted arched dial with black Arabic hour numerals, a subsidiary seconds dial, date aperture and blued steel hands, with gilt shell decoration to the four corners and a rural scene in the arch depicting a tree beside which is a cottage with an angel above holding a sheet with an inscription beseeching a gentleman to not cut down the tree, the man having a moving arm (now unconnected to the movement), the falseplate to the dial stamped with the dialmaker`s name `Owen`, the mahogany case having stringing to the trunk door and base, with the fluted quartered columns to the trunk having cast-brass Corinthian capitals, the hood with free-standing fluted pillars and cast-brass Corinthian capitals, a wavy moulding to the door and a swan-necked pediment with brass paterae and entwined dove brass centre finial, height 218cm. * Jacob Ballin is recorded as working circa 1800 in Wells, Somerset with a further address in Shepton Mallet. * Edward Owen (formerly of Owen & Price) is recorded as a maker of painted dials in Birmingham working at Lower Priory from 1803 with many of his dials made to special order and being both elaborate and elegant.
Of Theatrical Interest - A early 20th Century American red leather covered and metal mounted `BAL` Professional Trunk, no 1716 and originally the property of the juggler Walter Bellonini, with fully fitted interior and labelled William Bal Inc Manufacturers of fibre professional trunks, New York.
A late 18th century oak cased longcase clock, the 28cm square brass dial signed Katterns, Thrapstone, with silvered chapter ring, height 183cm. This lot is accompanied by an interesting letter of provenance attached inside the trunk. The trunk is also signed "James Wilson of Wadnoe", research conducted by the owner indicates that it is probably the signature of the case maker who can be traced to be working as a carpenter in Thrapstone c.1760.
A Victorian oak cased Admiral Fitzroy storm stick barometer, the arched ceramic dial with vernier scale, inscribed `Negretti & Zambra Instruments Makers to Her Majesty, ....`, the trunk fitted with a mercury thermometer, rectangular cistern cover, moulded apron, 107cm high Enrico Angelo Ludovico(Henry) Negretti was born in Italy in 1818 and came to Britsain in 1830 serving his apprenticeship with F APizzala, taking over his business in Hatton Garden on his death in 1840. A decade later he teamed up with Joseph Warren Zambra, who was born to immigrant Saffron Walden barometer maker CesareZambra in 1822 and the following year they won a medal at the Great Exhibition. The firm, optical, mathematical and philosophical instrument makers to Queen Victoria and Prince Albert (which still exists), expanded rapidly, and the conjunction of the three addresses given on this instrument dates it to 1862-1867
A Joseph Holdcroft Majolica spill figure, of a sulky-faced youth sitting with a drum between his legs, a Holdcroft Majolica plate moulded with a flying crane between prunus sprigs, and a Majolica spill vase modelled as a tree trunk, a small boy clinging to the edge, 2nd half 19th century, some restoration, 21cm max. (3)
