A late 18th Century oak cased longcase clock, the hood with moulded cornice and glazed door flanked by turned pilasters over a trunk door to a flat fronted plinth base, the circular brass dial with Arabic and Roman numerals, engraved to the centre "Josiah Kember Shaw" within pierced C-scroll and phoenix spandrels to a 30 hour movement, 207 cm high CONDITION REPORTS Wear, scuffs, splits and chips. Some losses. Base with numerous splits, screwed repairs and later additional sections, including whole of lower darker section being a later replacement. Old woodworm holes. Case sits slightly crookedly. Later varnished finish. Various holes and losses to back of case. We can make no guarantees as to whether complete nor whether in working order. Hands have soldered repairs. There is an old piece of fabric across the top of the hood (wood top missing). Dial with scratches.

Naval trunk with inserts to inside lid Provenance: Owned by a Henry Noble Shipton, born 17.1.1769 in Bristol, died 6.12.1824 in Barbados from Yellow Fever. He enlisted as 2nd Lt. in Royal Marines in 1812 and served on HMS Pembroke until 1814, he then resigned his commission and re-enlisted as an Ensign with the 1st Battalion 4th Regiment of Foot. He returned to England in May 1915 and was almost immediately re-embarked to take place in the Battle of Waterloo were he was awarded the Waterloo medal.
