A BRONZE FIGURE OF GANESHA, INDIA, 19TH CENTURY, the four-armed elephant headed deity seated with legs loosely crossed on a lotus base with his vehicle the rat below, with scrolling trunk and domed crown, 7.5cm Provenance: Collection of the late Joost Slingerland, Yorkshire, acquired Peter Sloane, London, 15 June 2001. A copy of the receipt is sold with this lot.
A George III oak brass dial longcase clock by Moses Evans of Llanddoget, the hood with broken pediment above a plain frieze and turned, fluted columns, the trunk with quarter columns flanking a shaped door, the base box with shaped panel and inlaid star patera, raised on a plain plinth, the 13.25in dial with moulded corner spandrels around a silvered chapter ring having Roman numerals with an outer Arabic minutes track, the centre with subsidiary seconds dial and date aperture, incised with an oval cartouche signed Moses Evans, Llanddoget, the eight-day movement with four knopped pillars, striking on a bell, with pendulum, two weights and a winder, 58cm wide x 33cm deep x 213cm high.Hood split to one side. Columns loose. Plinth replaced. Split to trunk door re-glued and stabilised. General typical cosmetic marks and signs of age and use to case. Dial fair to good with some minor wear to chapter ring.Sub seconds hand missing. Movement appears intact. not tested or seen to be running.
A Sid Pollard, Thirsk, light oak cased weight-driven longcase clock, the arched hood with three finials, the trunk with glazed door above a fielded panel base box on a plain plinth base, the brass dial with moulded spandrels around a silvered Roman chapter ring, the German eight-day weight-driven movement striking on a gong, 40cm wide x 24cm deep x 182cm high.

Dial is crazed. Also some loss of paint. Minute hand is slightly bent. Wood detached from left-hand-side. Vertical crack to front. Has pendulum and one weight. Horizontal crack to finial. Early 19th century 8 day longcase clock with silvered arched dial signed Stewart - Glasgow, inlaid mahogany case with two weights and pendulum, 230cm highMovement is dirty and does not appear to have been running recently, we are unable to confirm if it is in full working order. Seat board has been relaced and both cheeks have been reduced. Silvering on dial is worn, hands have been painted black and hour hand is bent. Overall, case is good, there is a small nick to the top edge of the trunk door, hood glass is cracked and door does not open easily , left barley twist column is loose. There is an old gong fitted to the back board and the movement does not appear original to the case.

Property of William Handford (1865-1929), William was in the Royal Marine Light Infantry, born in Bristol 1865, joining the RMLI in 1883 at the age of 15, sent to the Sudan landing via Egypt in 1884-85, to assist in the rescue of General Gordon at Khartoum, promoted to Corporal in 1892, then sent to China in July 1900 with the North China Field Force, then in August 1900 to relieve the Legations in Peking during the Boxer Rebellion, promoted to Colour Sergeant in 1904, in 1905-06 Keeper of the Royal Apartments on HMS Renown during the Royal Tour of India of the Prince and Princess of Wales (later King George V and Queen Mary), 1914-18 in the RMLI Southampton as Recruitment Officer, died 1929; items in the lot consist of his medals (WWI Peace medal, Egypt Medal 1882-89 (Torfek and Suakin 1885 clasps), Second China War medal (Relief of Pekin clasp), WWII War, Royal Naval Long Service and Good Conduct medal and Khedive Star, large bullion RMLI badge, dog tag, cap and shoulder badges, sweetheart brooch, seal, silver vesta, silver propelling pencil, buttons, tally, compass, goggles, snuff box, hipflask, pipe, yellow metal ring, squeeze box and large collection of sheet music, postal scales, folder of his postcards, including RPs, a folder containing his Service Certificate, a hand written account dated 22/3/1885 of the Battle of Tofeck, Promotion certificates, other regimental paperwork and records, photographs, swagger stick, period linen lined maps, later airplane identification posters, part of one of his uniform jackets, converted into a child's jacket, and more, all in his original pine travel trunk
