Beigegeben ein Gutachten von Dr. Klaus Ertz, Lingen, 05. Februar 2022.Der große Erfolg des Meisters gab Anlass zu weiteren Fassungen, die bei Sammlern und Auftraggebern sehr geschätzt waren. Immerhin 57 Bilder dieses Themenbereichs finden sich in seinem Oeuvreverzeichnis. So ist auch dieses Gemälde dort bereits als eigenhändiges Werk erfasst (Kat. Nr. 167 ff.).Die Darstellung leugnet nicht den bewussten Witz und Humor, den der Maler ins Bild gebracht hat. Nahezu karikaturenhaft hat er hier die überwiegende Anzahl der Personen vorgeführt: Etwa ein dickleibiges Paar in bemüht eleganter Tanzhaltung, wobei die trippelnden Füße nur schwerlich den mächtigen Leib tragen, der sich jedoch in feiner Kleidung gehüllt zeigt. Dagegen ist die Hauptfigur, die Braut vor einem Spanntuch im Hintergrund mit aufgehängtem Kranz in die Ferne gerückt. Die überbordende Festfreude des Dorfvolkes zeigt originelle Einzelmotive, wie etwa die beiden Musikanten mit Dudelsack oder die beiden Männer, die ihren geleisteten Trunk an der Hausmauer rechts ungeniert ablassen. So war es nicht zuletzt das Ziel des Malers, die allzu menschlichen Verhaltensweisen seiner Zeit mit leichter Ironie der Nachwelt zu hinterlassen. Anmerkung:Studierte unter Frans Floris (um 1516-1570) und entdeckte zunächst seine Vorliebe für die Landschaftsmalerei. Durch seinen Bruder Heinrich veranlasst, widmete er sich aber alsbald fast ausschließlich der figürlichen Malerei. Seine meist vielfigurigen Genrebilder werden oft nur vordergründig als teilweise humorige Szenen verstanden, hinter denen sich jedoch nicht selten ein tieferer allegorischer oder gesellschaftskritischer Sinn verbirgt. 1551 wurde er Mitglied der Antwerpener Lukasgilde.Literatur: Klaus Ertz, Pieter Brueghel d. Paar klassizistische Biskuitporzellanfiguren als KerzenhalterHöhe der Figuren mit den Tüllen: 53,5 cm. Gesamthöhe mit Holzsockeln: 85,5 cm. Sockelseitenlänge: 20 cm. Frankreich, wohl Sèvres, Epoche Louis XVI.Die Bronzen feuervergoldet. Die beiden Figuren als Gegenstücke gearbeitet: ein Jüngling nach rechts gewandt mit einem Putto zur Seite, an einem Baumstamm sowie junges Mädchen mit hochgebundenem lockigem Haar, ebenfalls begleitet von einem Putto an ihrer rechten Seite. Die beiden Figuren in Einheit mit einem kannelierten Säulenstumpf in Biskuitporzellan gearbeitet. Die beiden Gestalten tragen je eine schlanke Vase, aus der eine vergoldete Kerzentülle in Bronze hervorsteigt, über einem Akanthusblattbündel. Um den Sockel umziehender vergoldeter Bronzeprofilring. Die beiden Figuren auf zugehörigen quadratischen Holzsockeln in Mahagoniholz mit an drei Seiten, vertieft eingelegtem vergoldetem Bronzedekor: klassizistische Palmetten und Akanthusknospen im Rapport mit sichelförmigen Verbindungen. Die Figuren von hoher Qualität und in tadelloser Erhaltung. Creasing to surface and wear and abrasions.Repairs include new wood batten to upper section of base of interior for fixing hinges, strap holders feel quite utilitarian with respect the rest of the piece and may be replacements. Possibly originally with an escutcheon plate around lock. Some damage around upper edge by lock- no key. Front of chest with paler/cleaned patch to lower edge- just right of centre. Later felt pads to base. Interior paper worn and with losses throughout. A REGENCY MAHOGANY LUGGAGE RACK ATTRIBUTED TO GILLOWS, CIRCA 1815Of rare galleried form 84cm high, 62cm wide, 50cm deep For a closely related example see Christie's London, Important English Furniture, 6th July 2000, Lot 46 (£35,250). For a further closely related example (also with rear gallery) see Bonhams, London, Important Design, 25th April 2018, Lot 74 (£16,875). In 1812 Gillows supplied eight related trunk stands with reeded legs (but without rear gallery) to Wilbraham Egerton for Tatton Park, Cheshire. The current lot is particularly unusual for having a back as most models do not. The current example follows Gillows design dated 12th September 1822 for a 'trunk stand with back' (Gillows Sketch Books, pl. 3190). Condition Report: Marks, knocks, scratches and abrasions commensurate with age and use, Some old chips and splits. Some additional dark scratches and pitting to the cross planks and tops of rails. Additional InformationIt does have a lock although we do not have the key, there are splits to the top, denting and knocks to the metalware, with a large split to the back to the side panels, light scratches and wear. it does have a keyhole also.
