An oak eight day longcase clock, the arched silvered automaton dial engraved 'Matthews Leighton', striking the hour, with reeded columns to the hood and a plain case, 238cm highCondition report: Pendulum and weights, Case with splits and wear. Good overall colour. Height excluding finials – 225cm.The section where the seat board sits has been reinforced/altered, suggesting they movement is possibly associated with the clock. The trunk door is not warped. The base appears to have been cut down with a plinth added at a later stage. Please see additional images.
An shell inlaid trunk, 20th century, with an iron handle to either end, with geometric decoration, 95cm wide, 48cm deep, 35cm high, together with two similarly decorated occasional tables, one 60 x 56 x 67cm, the other a trumpet form work table, 44cm wide x 70cm high (3)Condition report: all later decorated and refinished, the trumpet form table with old damages and alterations to the lid and legs, the interior also with alterations, the trunk with hinge replaced and knocks and dents, the squre table slightly wobbly with knocks dents and loses.
Wilson, York, an oak and mahogany longcase clock: the eight-day duration movement striking the hours on a bell and having a thirteen-inch brass break-arch dial with a raised silvered chapter ring engraved with black Roman numerals, the centre having a subsidiary seconds dial, engraved scroll decoration and signed Wilson, York, with cast-brass c-scroll corner spandrels and decorative brass hands, the arch having a silvered boss engraved with a bird in flight and wording Tempus Fugit, the oak and mahogany veneered case with fluted quarter columns to the trunk, boxwood stringing and shell inlay to the door, the hood with fluted columns and a swan-neck pediment, the base with canted corners and raised panel, standing on bracket feet, height 224cm.
Farrer, Pontefract, a mahogany and oak longcase clock: the eight-day duration movement striking the hours on a bell and having a thirteen-inch painted arched dial with Arabic hour numerals, subsidiary seconds dial, decorative gilt-brass hands and with a scene within the arch depicting a lady walking in a garden, indistinctly signed to the dial centre Farrer, Pontefract, the oak case having mahogany crossbanding, the trunk with quartered fluted columns, the hood with a swan-neck pediment and fluted pillars, the base with a raised panel, height 220cm.* Biography Farrer were a well-known and prolific family of clockmakers working in Pontefract and near environs in the late 18th and early 19th centuries.Reference Brian Loomes, Yorkshire Clockmakers, Pub. M. Thomas, Carnarvon, an oak longcase clock: the twelve-inch arched brass dial having a raised chapter ring engraved with black Roman numerals and outer five-minute Arabic numerals, the centre engraved with subsidiary seconds and date dials and floral decoration, with cast-brass c-scroll spandrels to the four corners, the arch having a round brass boss engraved with the maker's name M. Thomas, Carnarvon, the oak case with quartered columns to the trunk, the hood with a swan-neck pediment and pillars, height 205cm.* Biography Morris (sometimes Maurice) Thomas is recorded as working in Boot Street, Carnarvon from at least March 1770 when he was employed to wind and regulate the town hall clock and is mentioned in the census of 1794 as a widower with three children, one of whom, Robert, worked alongside him. Known as a prolific maker of high quality loncase clocks.Reference William Linnard Wales Clocks & Clockmakers, Pub. Mayfield Books 2003. A similar dial signed for Thomas illustrated page 233.
Robert Bullock, Halesworth, a mahogany longcase clock: the eight-day duration movement striking the hours on a bell with the fourteen-inch arched brass dial, possibly a later addition, having a raised silvered chapter ring engraved with black Roman numerals, Arabic five-minute markings and fleur-de-lys half-hour markings, the dial centre engraved with floral scroll decoration, a subsidiary seconds dial, date aperture and maker's name Rob. Bullock, Halesworth, with cast-brass cherub-head spandrels to the four corners and decorative brass hands, the arch having a round silvered boss engraved with an eagle, with cast-brass dolphin spandrels to either side, the rear of the dial having a falseplate embossed with the name of the dialmaker Wilson of Birmingham, the mahogany case with satinwood stringing and inlay to the trunk, base and hood, with a gothic-shaped moulding to the door and inlaid floral and vase decoration to the lower trunk, the hood with a high swan-neck pediment with further satinwood stringing and surmounted by three brass eagle-and-ball finials, the base with canted corners and further inlaid decoration, all standing on bracket feet, height 250cm inc. finial.* Biography Robert Bullock is recorded as working in Halesworth, Suffolk in 1823 and may well be the same maker then recorded as working in Lower Olland Street, Bungay from circa 1830 until circa 1855.
John Farr, Bristol, a mahogany longcase clock: the eight-day duration movement striking the hours on a bell with the twelve-inch break-arch painted dial having black Roman hour numerals, a subsidiary seconds dial, date aperture, applied gilt decorative corner spandrels, with further gilt decoration to the arch depicting a bird on a nest surrounded by flora, and signed to the dial centre Jno. Farr, Claire Street, Bristol, with decorative brass hands, the curved-top mahogany case having boxwood stringing, the trunk with a short door and canted corners, the hood with typical Bristol wavy-edge frame, carved decoration inset to the top frieze with the fluted columns having cast-brass capitals, the base with raised moulding and standing on bracket feet, height 210cm.* Biography John Farr Snr. is recorded as working in Claire Street, Bristol from December 1771 when apprenticed to William Sladen and his wife Rachel. He is recorded as a watchmaker in the 1801 directory. His son Stephen was also apprenticed to the same couple in 1778 and he had a son, John Farr Jnr., apprenticed 1812, with whom he went into partnership and who is recorded at 27 Claire Street from 1823 until 1837 being the probable maker of this clock.Reference A.J. Bentley & Beck, a Regency mahogany longcase clock: the eight-day duration, five-pillar movement striking the hours on a bell and 'ting-tang' quarters on two bells, striking once at quarter-past, twice at half-past and three times at quarter-to, with the backplate engraved with the maker's name Bentley & Beck, Royal Exchange, London, the twelve-inch Gothic arched painted dial having black Roman numerals, a subsidiary seconds dial, a 'strike/silent' dial within the arch and blued steel hands, the Gothic shaped mahogany case having raised ebonised mouldings to the hood, trunk and base with canted corners to the trunk, the hood with decorative ebonised inlay and fluted columns, all standing on a tapered plinth, height 218cm.* Biography Bentley & Beck are recorded as working in London as a partnership between 1815 and 1824. Known pieces signed by them include a Congreve rolling ball clock, a musical bracket clock and a fine watch. John Bentley was apprenticed on the 6th September 1796 to Boys Err Burrell becoming free and a member of the Clockmakers Company from 1813 until at least 1823. James Beck of 5, Sweetings Alley, was a chronometer maker being recorded as a member of the Clockmakers Company from 1811 until at least 1823.
Anone, Holborn, London, an inlaid mahogany wheel barometer: the eight-inch round silvered dial engraved with typical barometer markings and having a blued steel hand with brass pointer and heavy Georgian brass bezel, the mahogany round-top case with oval shell inlaid decoration to the trunk either side of the thermometer, with further inlaid decoration to the top and base, height 98cm.* Biography Francis Anone is recorded as working in London from circa 1802 at 2 Holborn and then 26 High Holborn, 87 High Holborn, 242 High Holborn and finally 8, Ely Court, Holborn. Anone was an Italian immigrant who made and sold high-quality instruments.
A George III mahogany and inlaid domed trunk shaped decanter box:, bordered with boxwood and ebony lines and decorated with satinwood ground oval panels, depicting flowers and foliage in a cornucopia and in a basket, the hinged top enclosing a fitted interior with four square glass decanters and stoppers for Hollands (2), Rum and Brandy and with circular and square apertures, having brass carrying handles to the sides, on square tapered legs, terminating in brass spade feet and castors, 40.5cm (1ft 4in) wide.
A Vienna neo-classical plate: painted in the manner of Angelica Kauffman with lovers by a tree trunk and rocky stream in an oval cartouche reserved on a burnished gilt ground and within a raised and 'jewelled' gilt matt puce ground, underglaze blue shield mark, impressed date code for [18]15, impressed numeral 82 and incised numeral 7, painter's mark 19, 24.5cm [minor losses to jewelling].

An Oak Cased Lantern Clock, the 17th century style oak case with a flat top pediment, hinged front door, side doors, front of the trunk later carved WWS 1686, four posted lantern frame movement, verge escapement and a central bob pendulum, outside countwheel striking on a top mounted bell, 6-inch chapter ring, dial centre engraved with tulips and initials below 12 signed "JO", date aperture above 6, single hand, case is 19th century and later, lantern clock early 18th century, 217cm high Condition report: Case is 19th century and later, case with small cracks, scuff marks and chips in parts, trunk with later carved initials and a later carved date, lantern clock with all three top frets missing, side door panels and back panel are missing, dial with damages to the top left and right hand corners and signs of old repairs, chapter ring is split through the 12 o'clock numeral and needs repairing, front left hand side movement post is a wrought iron replacement, dial is loose and needs pinning into position.
