GOOD BLACK FOREST SMOKING TABLE,late 19th century, in lindenwood, the base modelled as a bear clutching a tree-trunk, the hinged head enclosing a storage compartment, supporting a pierced foliate carved oval top housing two lidded compartments with bear finials, with further bear surmount, 90.8cm highCondition report: Condition good to fair. Damage to right paw and restoration to left foot of the small bear surmount to the top. Also screw lacking/work carried out to the two smaller compartments hinges. No ashtray insert. Stable split, to wood on right arm of larger bear, and light wear throughout, though nothing which compromises the structure of the piece.Additional images available.

Charcoal, pastel, and acrylic on canvas titled "The Enigma of the Tree," 1987, depicting a leafless tree trunk adorned with birds, insects, flowers, skulls, and a mask, all over a misty abstract background. The artwork is signed, titled, dated, and inscribed with the media and measurements along the verso. There is a gallery label affixed along the verso from Betsy Rosenfield Gallery, Inc., Chicago, Illinois, which lists the artwork's information as well as the inventory number # C1087CY.08. Movement appears intact. Silvering to dial almost entirely rubbed away. Hood fair with some signs of age and use. Case trunk missing left cavetto moulding. Door hinges possibly replaced. Base box front and left side boards split. General cosmetic marks throughout consistent with age and use.
