Williams of Merthyr, the arched dial with flower spandrels and Roman numerals, subsidiary seconds and date aperture, the hood with fluted columns, the canted trunk with plain door above a plain base box, raised on bracket feet, the 8-day four pillar movement striking on a bell, 207cm high
An early 19th century crossbanded mahogany long case clock with arched wood and broken scroll pediment, 14” white painted dial with Roman numerals, 8-day bell striking movement above a three-quarter length trunk door with shaped top between wrythen reeded pilasters over a cross banded base. 216cm high
An 18th century oak longcase clock, Edward Low of Chester, with two-train striking movement. Height 214 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The movement winds on both trains. When weight is applied to the going train the clock seems to be operating as it should. When the hands are advanced the mechanism strikes. The clock does wind on both trains. We have not had the clock ticking as the crutch through which the pendulum fits is snapped. The movement however seems clean. The date does not seem to be advancing when the hands are moved manually. The hood is in generally very good condition with no issues. The trunk door is not warped. There is evidence of a previous lock escutcheon. The current escutcheon is old. The lock is a modern replacement and there is also evidence of a butterfly door closer to the left of the lock escutcheon. The base is in generally good order although there is a split between the joins on the bottom panel. The bracket feet have some age but are clearly later. When the door is opened there is evidence of old woodworm to the left and right hand uprights but this appears to be long gone. There is further evidence of woodworm to the soft wood beneath the dial. The seat board has some age but is not original. Whilst the cheeks do not appear to have been built up the construction is not in our opinion traditional. The movement does however fit the mask very well. The case backboards appear to be original.
A George III oak and mahogany cased grandfather clock, with brass dial and eight day striking movement by Malkin Kirkby, with moon phase, complete with pendulum and weights. Height 219 cm. CONDITION REPORT: We have two weights and the pendulum. Both trains wind and when weight is applied to both the strike and going train the movement appears to operate as it should. When the hands are advanced the date advances also. The movement is a little dirty and would perhaps benefit from a clean. The moon phase appears to advance as it should. The moon phase has clearly been repainted. The hood has a cracked glass. The top left brass roundel is damaged. The section of moulding above the inlaid shell is partially missing. The left hand return moulding at the top of the case has been detached and badly re-glued. The Greek key inlay beneath the crossbanded frieze is a little damaged at the left corner but not significantly. The trunk door is not warped. The case polish is however a little dry and faded particularly to the front door and base. The surround to the inlaid shell on the base is a little perished. The bracket feet to the front and sides of the base are scuffed and worn. The backboards are original.
A Georgian walnut cased longcase clock, with moulded cornice above the arched glazed door enclosing the two-train striking movement by Jos. Naylor, London, with long trunk door and conforming base raised on bracket feet. Height 244 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The movement winds on both trains and is currently ticking away. When the hands are advanced the tidal aperture and the date appear to advance as they should. We cannot attach the strike weight as the top loop to the weight is broken. We have not had the strike operating. The seatboard is not original and there is some packing beneath the seatboard. Whether this indicates that the clock is a marriage or not we are not sure. The case maybe pine. It looks to have been fairly recently stripped and varnished. This have been a lacquered case originally. The backboards would appear to be original. The bracket feet, plinth moulding and short upstand to the base are later.
A mahogany cased grandmother clock, with spring driven three-train movement striking on four gongs, with slim trunk door and brickwork base. Height 150 cm, width 30.5 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The movement winds on all three trains. It is currently ticking away and striking when the movement is advanced. The movement seems very clean. The hood is in very good condition with no issues. The dentil moulding beneath the hood is all present. One of the half round applied turnings beneath the dentil work is missing. This is the one to the extreme right of the front which should be visible on our image. The trunk door is flat and not warped. We have the key. The sides of the case are in good condition as are the sides of the base. A minor fault is a vertical stress fracture to the bottom panel of the base. All bracket feet are present and original. The backboards are in good order. There is no evidence of any woodworm.
An Edwardian mahogany longcase clock, with steeple and ball finial and swans neck pediment above the arched glazed door enclosing the brass dial and three-train striking movement, with long trunk door and conforming base. Height including finial 220 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The clock case is in extremely good condition. The hood columns are a little loose but other than this the case is really in first class condition. The silvered brass dial is tarnished and somewhat dirty. The movement does wind on all three trains. It is however extremely dirty and we have not had the movement running. There is a pendulum with the clock however we do not think that this is the correct one even though it is inside the case.
An early 19th century mahogany longcase clock by Dan Brown of Glasgow, with two-train striking movement, subsidiary date and seconds dials. Height 203 cm. CONDITION REPORT: We have the weights, pendulum, door key and winding key. The clock is currently ticking away and striking. The case is in generally good order. There are some minor nibbles to the cornice and a few pieces of dentil work missing. Both the columns are slightly loose at the top but are easy to position. The left hand column has the rear of the top capital missing. The trunk door is slightly warped but does close and lock with the key. The lock and lock escutcheon are later. There are various nibbles and marks to the case however the condition is generally fairly good. The right hand blind fretwork spandrel has a small loss.
A mahogany grandmother clock, with eagle and ball finial, swans neck pediment and arched glazed door enclosing the 27 cm wide arched dial by David Thomas, Lantrisaint, with two-train striking movement, the case with long trunk door, quarter column corners and raised on short bun feet. Height 190 cm (see illustration).
A mahogany grandmother clock, with swans neck pediment with steeple and ball finials above the glazed door enclosing the brass dial and two-train striking movement by Thomas Reid, Montrose, with long arched trunk and all raised on bracket feet. Height 182 cm, dial width 22 cm (see illustration).
A George III mahogany longcase clock by James Kirkland of Glasgow, with brass dial, two-train striking movement, subsidiary seconds hand and date aperture, the hood with blind fretwork and twist columns, the multiple arched trunk door flanked by canted angles. Height 228 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: This clock is in generally good order. The movement winds on both trains and is currently ticking away and striking as it should. The hood has damage and losses to the fretwork. The right hand side fretwork return is completely missing. The left hand side is 50% missing. It would make sense to incorporate the remains of the left hand side return into the section missing from the front. The fretwork section above the arch has some minor losses and the material behind has some perforations. The left hand side Gothic window to the hood is missing. The right hand side one is present and has some minor fretwork damage. The trunk door is not warped and locks as it should. We have the key. The sides of the trunk are in good condition as is the base. The bracket feet are original. The backboards are original and in good order.
