A Late 18th/Early 19th Century Oak Longcase Clock, by B. Gurden of Daventry, the 12ins arch painted dial with Roman and Arabic numerals, subsidiary seconds dial and date aperture, painted with flowers to spandrels and bird to arch, to the eight day two train movement striking on a bell, contained in case with moulded pediment and turned columns to hood, shaped trunk door crossbanded in mahogany, on plinth base, 81ins high Note: Benjamin Gurden of Daventry recorded working 1795
An American Belber wardrobe steamer trunk, c. 1925, with safe lock mechanism, opening to reveal a set of graduated drawers to one side and hanging space to the other, various luggage labels including Cooks, 104 x 56 x 53cm. The Belber company was established in 1891 when two school-age brothers, Aaron and Henry Belber, started making luggage in a South Philadelphia basement. They opened a factory in 1903, and by 1919 were the world's biggest manufacturer of travelling goods.
2nd-3rd century AD. A bronze octagonal lamp of squat profile, three splayed feet and long handle with small thumb-guard; the spout formed as an elephant's head with raised hollow trunk, ears pulled back; domed hinged lid surmounted by an eagle with spread wings, strong hooked beak and pellet eyes, feather detailing to the wings and legs. 1.2 kg, 27cm (10 1/2"). Property of a private New York collection; previously with Pierre Bergé & Associés, Archéologie, Paris, 29 November 2014, lot 238; formerly in a private US collection, acquired in the 1990s; accompanied by copies of the relevant Pierre Bergé catalogue pages.Fine condition.
An XVIII Century Mahogany Eight-Day Longcase Clock, the circular brass dial with Roman numerals and two subsidiary dials inscribed "Hill Sheffield", hood with arched pediment (no door), trunk with long door and reeded pilasters, the base with canted corners and applied moulding, on ogee feet.
A Stuart Turner 10V live steam vertical mill engine, with metal clad cylinder 3/4 inch stroke by 3/4 inch bore, trunk guide, eccentric driven steam valve from crank and spoked flywheel. The model finished in green, red and black paintwork and mounted on sole plate with wooden plinth. Height 17cm.
A well engineered model of a Stuart Turner 'Sun' live steam marine engine. 3/4 inch stroke by 3/4 inch bore. Fitted with displacement oiler. Suitable for use with ordinary and flash steam boilers. The Sun is similar in conception to the larger Sirius and is also of trunk-piston design. Height 10cm. Length 12cm.
A period Märklin steam plant, M&G Cie Wurtemburg 5 ½ D, the plant comprising of a horizontal boiler with spirit burner, water sight-glass, drain tap, pressure gauge with adjustable weight, whistle and detachable chimney. Steam supply to horizontal mill engine having trunk guide, speed governor, cylinder oiler cup with cover, eccentric driven water pump, spoked flywheel driving dynamo via spring type belt. The whole mounted on plinth 36cm x 29cm. Height to top of chimney 37cm. In original wooden box.
A leather steamer travelling case/trunk, formerly the property of John Edward Brown a maritime telegraph operator, the tan exterior stamped with initials 'J.E.B.' and with various G.W.R transfer labels (including to Barry Dock) to top enclosing fabric lined interior with lift-out tray, 84cm (33ins) wide; with original photographic 'Certificate of Proficiency in Radiotelegraphy granted by the Postmaster General' awarded to John Edward Brown dated June (19) 18 and two wage slips for the year 1921.
A well engineered 1 inch scale model of a Burrell general purpose agricultural traction engine, the silver soldered copper boiler with fittings including steam pressure gauge, water sight-glass, drain cocks, hand operated brake to rear wheels, injector, cylinder drain cocks, solid 15cm diameter disc flywheel, open crank, trunk guide, Stephenson reverse gear, lubrication system, safety valve, clack, ratchet oiler system, eccentric driven water pump, two road speeds, wire rope winch with fitted fair leads, worm and chain steering, brass boiler bands, steam chest cover. An exhibition standard 1 inch scale model of an Allchin Agricultural Traction engine 'Royal Chester', built by the late Mr Patrick Avery of Ashbourne Derbyshire with single cylinder, being a two speed general purpose engine. The engine has a silver soldered copper boiler with fittings including water gauge, pressure gauge, safety valve, blower, clack and blowdown valves. Engine details include single cylinder approximately ¾ inch bore x 1 inch stroke, drain cocks, ratchet mechanical lubricator, trunk type crosshead guide, Stephenson link reverse, eccentric driven feed pump and bypass, two road speeds and spoked flywheel. Chassis details include spoked straked wheels, worm and roller chain steering, spud pan, damper, cable drum, fairleads, hand brake to second shaft. The model is finished in red and black paintwork with polished steel bright-work. Length 46cm.Boiler History: No boiler history available.
An exhibition standard model of a double Tangye horizontal mill engine, built to the design by Edgar T Westbury from A J Reeves of Birmingham castings. The two cylinders lagged in metal with twin speed governors mounted above with shut off linkage to steam inlet valve. Trunk guides for connecting rods with disc cranks and centrally mounted spoked flywheel. The model finished in red paintwork with polished bright-work and set on plinth with circular Perspex cover.
A collection of Chinese jades, comprising: one armrest in the shape of a tree trunk with scroll feet and blossoming prunus in relief, four-character Qianlong mark, 10cm long, another armrest, carved with literati in a rocky landscape, a crane flying above, inscribed, 18.7cm long, and a plaque, with three literati seated under a pine tree, an attendant alongside, 9.1cm long (3)
A 19th Century flame mahogany North East Country longcase clock, the 13" painted arch dial with rocking galleon and marked for S. Bailey, Newcastle with subsidiary seconds and date dials, the original case with shaped door and flanking turned columns to trunk, with eight day bell striking movement
A Large Exhibition Type Longcase or 'Grandfather' Clock with a three train movement on eight chiming bells, supported by three large brass weights of varying sizes, playing Westminster and Whittington chimes. Subsidiary dials to the arched brass dial with silent and chimes display dial; the brass dial fitted with cast ormolu mounts to back corner, silvered chapter rings to the dial, maker or retailers name to the face, Thomas Armstrong and brothers, Manchester. Impressive mahogany case profusely inlaid with satinwood and various coloured exotic woods, with an Adams type urn to the central panel of the door; inlaid swags to the base, supported by shaped bracket feet. The hood with finely carved rosette roundels to the scrolls, with a central finial, fret work sides to the hood and finely matched Corinthian columns with capitals to both the case trunk and hood, 90'' high, 18'' wide, 12'' deep.
A Siamese “elephant” dagger, plain SE blade 10½”, elaborate brass hilt, the floral embossed crossguard with prominent downturned dragon’s head quillons, divided knucklebow with upturned elephant’s trunk lower part and downward trunk upper part from elephant’s head pommel with red glass eyes, ivory grips, in its brass scabbard with painted panelled top, middle band and chape.
