John Wise, a late 17th century walnut longcase clock, the 9.5inch brass dial with winged cherub spandrels, date aperture, signed below VI, silvered chapter ring with Arabic 5 minutes and half hour markers, fully latched month movement with 5 baluster pillars, outside countwheel striking, bolt and shutter maintaining power, pendulum bob hooked to rod, brass cased weights, the case (possibly associated) with rising hood, trunk with crossbanded sides, plain rectangular door, on a plinth base 201cm (78in) Provenance: Private collection, Cambridge. Other Notes: John Wise senior recorded as a freeman in 1646, apparently living in Warwick 1653-68, then in London thereafter. One of his apprentices (a son) was also called John, a freeman from 1679. He was dead by April 1693. Longcase clocks are difficult to distinguish between father and son. recent support limb fitted to top of backboard for supporting raised hood. ConditionApparently not month going. Going train winding on left side barrel anti clockwise. Recent support limb fitted to top of backboard for supporting raised hood. Please see extra photos. Case may be later (poss 19th century); it has had restorations amd repolishing. Currently running. Private owner downsizing.
Robert Clements, London, a late 17th century walnut marquetry longcase clock, the hood with barleytwist pilasters, trunk door with floral and foliate design with three birds, the square 11inch (28cm) dial signed 'Robt. Clements London' around VI, gilt mask spandrels, silvered chapter ring, seconds dial and date aperture, ringed winding holes, 5 pillar 8 day movement, brass cased weights, the crossbanded trunk sides in two compartments, upon a marquetry front base 202cm (79in)Conditioncornice appears later replacement. Good colour to case. Oak carcase. See photos. Not currently running as pendulum spring broken.
Henry Hindley, York, a George III mahogany 'Chinese Chippendale' longcase clock, the case very similar to a design in Chippendale's Director, the pagoda top hood with 12inch arched signed silvered one-piece dial, 4 pillar movement, the tapering trunk with full length door upon a stepped moulded front plinth, 271cm high Provenance: Mawley Hall, Shropshire Literature: The case design published as plate CXXXVI in the 1754 and 1755 editions of Chippendale's Director. Henry Hindley (1701-1771), a fine and ingenious clockmaker, also created the world’s first telescope powered by a precision clock movement, enabling the telescope to remain fixed on its subject without constant adjustment because of the earth’s rotation (Collection Science Museum, London).ConditionReluctant to keep ticking. Strikes correctly when hands are advanced. One piece hood.

A good, wide-margined copy of this comprehensive depiction of the Antonine Column in Rome, the commemorative monument erected between AD 172 and 196 to celebrate the victories of Marcus Aurelius. A further three plates were issued in 1708 but these are not called for in the Berlin Katalog.

There a few wood worm holes on the hood. There are some splits in the wood on one side and the front. There are lot of normal wood holes in the back. See attached images.
